Creature of Habit or Thriving with Changes?

in life •  6 years ago

If you have been reading my posts for some time, you might guess where do I stand on this one.

Yes, I am a creature of habit, meaning that my best results are when I follow a schedule. Usually self-imposed, because it turned out over the years I am not happy being bossed around or in a strict environment.

I'm ok with breaking the routine, sometimes I need it, but don't expect me to have the same productivity, as I adapt to changes.

Maybe it's not a very sexy image. We all like that image of a traveling online entrepreneur who lies next to the pool or on the top of a mountain and takes care of business as well as it does from the office, wherever in the world, as long as (s)he has a laptop or even a smartphone and an internet connection.

Well, I'm not like that. When I change my schedule, everything is messed up for a while. Take this week for example, I have appointments all week long, at different hours of the day, that makes me improvise the rest of the schedule around them. When I got back today yesterday, Steem was halted, so even more improvisation was needed if I wanted to continue my daily posting habit (well, that great streak just went away, lol).

When I go on vacation I usually am on vacation. Go figure! I enjoy it, go visit, maybe take a couple of pictures... But it never crosses my mind to share them online. Unlike my sister for example, who shares tons of pictures.

Maybe I'm an endangered species being a creature of habit and an introvert, but most likely not alone.

What's your best side? Are you also a creature of habit or do you thrive with change, like being continuously on the road and still being at your best with work?

A thought just crossed my mind that nomads are also creatures of habit, except their habit is not staying in one place for too long.

I think I like having a daily routine over traveling all the time. I only like traveling in my local area and I get a little stressed when my routine is disrupted. @gadrian

Having said that, I am working to change my routine a bit so that I can have a healthier lifestyle.

P.S. I am personality type ENFP-A.

I get you on the daily routine disruption effect. It has a bad productivity effect work-wise for me too, but otherwise if I go on vacation, I rarely hold off on trying new things, vising more (new) places etc. I can't mix them though. I'm either on vacation or working.

That's actually a talent @gadrian Some people are always working, even when they are taking a vacation lol.

I believe that's more like a habit they formed in time. But surely, it's a nice habit to have in this constantly moving world. But I guess I'm more traditionalist on this, I like to keep things separate.

I don't think it's necessarily a nice habit to have - overworking can lead to a very imbalanced life, and possibly even poor health.

Many people who are work-centered feel like they are unable to take breaks or vacation time. In many ways it is an addiction (i.e. being a 'workaholic').

You are doing good by separating work and play 😊✌

I agree. But enough people don't think like that nowadays.

Most people don't realize this until old age, and some only discover it on their death bed.
