Embrace the dark, you'll see amazing things...

Have you ever looked up into the sky at night? If you're in the right location and it's a clear night you might see something sort of special, vast and immeasurable. I live in a city and as such don't get to see the stars in their full glory due to the glow of the lights however I spend a lot of my time in the country and that means stars!

I don't know their names really, or the constellations either, but they're all familiar friends as I've spent many a dark night around a low-burning campfire gazing up counting shooting stars and fast-moving satellites. I can name a few of the stars though: Mars, the Southern Cross of course, and...The Moon! That's an easy one. I use an App called Sky Guide which is a cool app that shows the constellations and stars when you open it and point your phone to the sky. It plays relaxing music if you want it to but it's cool for just pointing out the constellations and stars. Click the link above if you want to check it out.

The photo in this post was taken in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia. You can take a look at this website to learn more. Flinders Ranges. I took the photo in a place called Brachina Gorge which was formed some 850,000 years ago. What better place to star gaze could there be? Well, there's loads of better places like bloody anywhere! You see, you don't need to go somewhere special, just drive away from the city or town you live in on a clear night and look upwards. There'll be some stars there. If it's a clear dark night and you don't see any stars well...Maybe it's the end of the world. I'm almost certain you'll see them though :)

Amazing photo. When I take my kids camping, I make them lie on their backs and stare at the stars. Few better ways to gain perspective.

Camping is one of the great pleasures of my life. I don't have kids to share it with and as a kid my dad never took me but it has become a big part of my life; I find it relaxing and energising. I am also fortunate in that my wife digs it too.

Star gazing is something I do a lot when out in the country. I went to the Dubbo conservatory once with my wife. We loved that. Looking through powerful telescopes at the stars is such a humbling experience.

Thanks for your comment Jason. Hope you had a good Christmas and here's to a productive 2018. May our crypto rise and rise :)

Why when I look up into the sky, I feel emotional? :)

I'm not sure but it happens to me too. I think it's that feeling of being so small in such a vast environment. We make out that our lives are so important and valuable but in the grand scheme of things we are like little particles of dust when compared to the cosmos.

absolutely

One of the things I love most about going home is that you can see ALL THE STARS. Over here we have to drive out a fair way, and seems we might even need to drive a short distance from small towns if you want a great view as opposed to a merely good one ;D

The drive out here is usually worth it though :)

That photo is awesome, I reckon you should have done the LOOK AT ME style lead image with it rather than the cute stylish pull right ;D

goatsig

Star gazing is such a great activity.

Ok, so I could have led with the image as a large main one rather than the cute and stylish pull-right as you put it. But here's the thing, I'm cute and stylish so it comes naturally! :) Just joshin...Nah, not really. ;)

Post title attracts me the most. Thanks for the motivation. Now i hope that one day i will embrace the dark and see amazing things....
