Want to increase your IQ instantaneously? Get reading glasses.

I did a comprehensive survey today in a bid to determine how many people knew their IQ. The survey took a large group of test subjects and asked an exhaustive set of questions and the results were quite interesting. I have concluded that 100% of people, based on the aforementioned comprehensive testing, do not in fact have any idea what their IQ is...

...What I actually did was ask three people at my office if they knew their IQ and none did so maybe my research is lacking somewhat in depth.

For the record, I do not know what my own IQ is either, nor has it really ever come up as something I’ve needed to know. It came up today though, as the lady at the optometrist stated how much more intelligent I appear with my [new] reading glasses on and that they raised my IQ by 20 points! In case you didn’t know, a couple of weeks ago I was prescribed reading glasses and I just collected them today. I thanked the lady of course and gave her a smile; She was making a joke of course and I played along commenting that I was pleased and that now meant I had a total IQ of 25! We had a laugh and moved on.

It made me think about IQ though; About what is considered normal or average and what is considered high, so I did some research. I don’t mean dodgy research like my initial IQ survey though; I mean real hard-hitting research of a reputable nature. Yes, that’s right, I Googled it. Come on, you can’t tell me that’s not legit research! So I found the following:

IQ level and cognitive designation

40-54: Severely challenged
55-69: Challenged
70-84: Below average
85-114: Average (68% of test takers)
115-129: Above average
130-144: Gifted
145-159: Genius
160-175: Extraordinary genius

I read that Australia has an average IQ of 98 which means the country sits as the [jointly] 9th ranked country in the world along with USA, Spain, Latvia, Hungary, France, Denmark and Czech Republic. The top spot goes to Hong Kong and Singapore [jointly]. I’m not sure how accurate these figures are however they look legit. I saw it on the interwebs so it must be true. Google knows everything.

I thought it would be cool to look up the IQ of a few famous people and found a few surprises. Take a look:

  • Stephen Hawking 160
  • Dolph Lundgren 160
  • Quentin Tarantino 160
  • James Woods 180
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger 135
  • Charles Darwin 165
  • Albert Einstein 160

I know Dolph Lundgren isn’t that famous but he has a high IQ which I wasn’t prepared for. Anyway, I don’t know what my IQ is as I’ve never taken the test. I think I probably won’t either as it’s not really that relevant to me. I mean take James Woods for instance; An IQ of 180 and he drops out of MIT to pursue a career in acting. That doesn’t make him a genius actor, or a stupid one either. It just makes him someone who pursued his dream of acting rather than wherever else his IQ may have led him. I don’t feel especially gifted or genius, nor do I feel overly challenged so I suppose if I was to test my IQ I’d fall into the average somewhere. I’m ok with that.

Today I increased my IQ by 20 points according to the optometrist. I could feel the IQ rising when I put them on. All of a sudden I could comprehend all manner of things and...Ok, so that didn’t actually happen at all. Having said that I LOOK smarter apparently and hopefully I can bumble my way through with that!

@galenkp interesting read mate.

I have always needed to wear specs but because I'm at the border of not too high and not too low, I've avoided it. I have power sunglasses though. It must be "vanity" too (perhaps the real reason).

I must get one now to "look" more intelligent. Hahaha!

I've worked most of my 12 years in the area of Coaching, Leadership and EQ. Believe that EQ plays such an important role in the 21st Century Leader. IQ is just the door opener to Leadership...but the true worth of the Leader is how they treat (through impact and influence) their people.

Hi coach, thanks for your comment and link. I’ll take a look. I’ll wear my reading glasses too so that way I’ll be able to understand it. Maybe.

You beauty mate! 😊👍🏻

your lucky day @galenkp! wear glasses when you go to the important meeting :)

Haha, yeah I feel so much smarter. The problem is I can’t wear them all the time because they only work at reading distance. Anything beyond that is all blurry! I look bloody smart though! :)

Well,I've been wearing a pair of glasses for 27 years now, more like a second skin (you can see it in my profile), so my IQ must have been increasily steadily, I'm sure. I fear for myself.

Oftentimes, perception is reality, so if you appear smarter, people will treat you that way. Maybe they were going to try to scam you out of something, but they see your spectacular new spectacles and they decide against it because they think that you'll catch onto their plot and it will cost them. Who knows? The possibilities are endless, but the point is that you can never be too safe. That's why I always wear three pairs of glasses at all times. Raises my IQ by 48 points! See, I can even do math now. :P

I never thought of that, three at one time! Smart. Genius-level smart! :)

i have taken a number of IQ tests over the years for job interviews etc - and can remember the results of some, The first one i ever took was at university, i scored 147 - but it was multiple choice so that made it easier... i remember running out of time and putting "B" for all the answers on the last page - i got several correct too LOL... i also did an eight hour psychological and IQ test combined for a senior management role when i first arrived in Australia - i got a copy of the results a few weeks later - i scored 150 - but then most of the questions were engineering biased, so scoring 98% and 97% for mechanical reasoning and spatial awareness etc wasn't too hard for an engineer.

Anyhoo - after reading your blog, i thought this will be fun and took a free online IQ test to see how i'm doing now, after copious amounts of alcohol and TV - i scored 130 - woo hoo the grey matter still functions.

fyi - @minismallholding has an IQ of 145, she used to do those crazy logic puzzles - you know the ones, like - jack gets on a train with 20c in his pocket and his brother wears a green hat - what is the name of Bills aunt?... Who the hell is Bill???
i'll just stick to my killer sudoku thanks :)

Ok, so firstly Bill’s aunt’s name is Betty. Just saying. :)

Seriously though, that’s some impressive figures right there! Albert Einstein’s stuff! Have the kids picked up in your collective genius?

Ha ha ha - Betty - your'e probably right.
i don't think the 130 IQ thing makes me a genius, there's lots of people out there a lot smarter than me, and it's not if your smart, it's if your an arsehole or not - :)
Yes - unfortunately - both girls scored off the charts at school, that's why they were taken out of the school system and home schooled. Pretty damn smart but no common sense...

Here's how the IQ points system works. Taken from a website for use in my post. So yeah, you're not a genius, just gifted! :)

IQ level and cognitive designation

40-54: Severely challenged
55-69: Challenged
70-84: Below average
85-114: Average (68% of test takers)
115-129: Above average
130-144: Gifted
145-159: Genius
160-175: Extraordinary genius

thank you for the post! I really enjoyed it. but how do you measure their IQ!? exactly

I have no idea, I’m not an IQ tester. There’s a series of puzzles and things I think. There’s also other factors as well. For me, I just have to put my reading glasses on and I’m instantly smarter!

Yes i want so to increase my IQ and this will help me alot
