Edgar Cayce

Edgar Cayce was born on March 18, 1877 and died on January 3, 1945. He was known all over the world because of the fact that many people who were ill visited him, he would fall into a trance and during this time he would diagnose what was wrong with the person and the possible cures.

People from all walks of life would visit him and his success rate was astounding. Many theories have come up as to how he was able to do this. Of course the first and the one most used by sceptics was that he in reality was a fraud and all was a well planned con scheme. But he did cure people so it couldn’t have been a scam.

The most plausible, to me anyway, explanation I have found is that Mr. Cayce had the ability while in a trance to tap the minds of the people he knew could help him with the diagnostic and once he had the diagnostic he could tap other minds which would know the cure. Kind of weird but still I think very possible.

He did leave behind a great many tapes and notes of his “readings” which are still available at the Edgar Cayce Foundation, which has an online presence at EdgarCayce.org.

Now I do believe he was a healer and did have certain metaphysical capacities, on the other hand he also played at being a clairvoyant and there he does have many failings. I read some books about him because my sister was an avid fan of his and would acquire whatever information she could find about him.

Among his failed prophecies are:

  • Atlantis rising from the sea about 1969.

  • Giant earthquake in California in the 1960’s

  • Christian conversion of China in the 20th century

  • Hall of Atlantean Records under one of the Sphinx’s paws

This last one is really debatable because since the late 1990’s many scientific expeditions have agreed that there appear to be empty spaces in the location near one of the paws but it appears none have been given permission to explore this area thoroughly, so maybe Cayce did get this right after all, and we are not being told everything (as always).

Anyway Mr. Cayce remains a very emblematic figure and his achievements are covered by a certain air of mystery. I personally think he was for real, and yes he missed out on several prophecies, but hey, nobody is perfect.
