Win or Lose?

Is winning everything? Seems like football fans the world over are sure that that is true, and I guess it is, if you are competing your goal should be the top spot and nothing less of course this is only achievable for one person team or group so the others would be losers?

But why are they losers because they lost a game or a race? I guess there can only be one winner but I really don't think just because you didn't win that makes you a loser, yes you lost the competition but on the other hand you also won experience, probably had a good time and probably you will have another chance tow in some other day so I guess fans going crazy over a loss is not a good idea.

I am talking about this because I saw a couple of football games and read about a couple of others and saw the following pattern: if your team loses its because they are practically idiots if they win it is because they are the best in the world. I read comments for these games and that is the attitude I found in them (I guess most of the comments are the real feelings of fans and not just people trolling).

But I don't really agree, last night I watched a CONCACAF game between Tigres de Nuevo leon from Mexico and Saprissa from Costa Rica. Tigres won 5-1 and made it to next round (Saprissa won the first game 1-0). Now I am from Central America and I was rooting for Saprissa even though that is not a team I like that much, but they are from Central America and were the underdogs against a very strong Mexican team.

Despite the score I liked the way Saprissa played, they came out looking for a win but they were up against a better team with better definition, hence the 5 goals against but Saprissa had more than a few chances and missed them, but overall Saprissa played very well against Tigres which was the home team, is a Mexican powerhouse, has great players and has a much larger budget. Overall I think no Saprissa fan should be ashamed of their team, they took a gamble and lost on it, but I got to seea great game.

Then today I saw Chelsea 2-Tottenham 0, the comments on the Guardian make it appear like Tottenham is practically dying, I on the other hand saw a great game played by two very similar forces in which one of the two was able to score twice, one of these goals a great individual play and the other a terrible mistake made by a tottenham defender and his goalkeeper. Buta gain a game that could have gone either way I fail to see where Tottenham came out looking abd, except of course they lost the game but that is what football is about you win, you draw you lose.

Then we had Real Madrid 0 - Barcelona 3, another game where according to the score you would think one thing that Barcelona ran over RM but according to what I have read RM actually had more chances at goal than Barca, yes they squandered the goals but they had a great game and it was a cup game so someone had to win it and it was Barca who won, a game where probably RM played better.

Of course you might say that the team who won is the better one, but that was only for this game perhaps next time they meat the result could be different, I think that is what makes sports so interesting, despite losing now you always have the opportunity to win at some other time.
