MEN AND WOMEN; SAME PLANET, DIFFERENT BRAINS

in life •  8 years ago

In most cases, men and women do not behave, feel, think, or respond in the same ways, either on the inside or on the outside.
Truthfully speaking, men and women are from the same planet. However, there are many differences between the both. There is bound to be some respectful discourse about this topic, so please feel free to comment or provide alternative points of view.

Men & women don't see in the same way
From the light hitting the retina, to the information arriving in the cerebral cortex, this process is different in males and females.

  • The male retina is thicker and has more M cells (magnocellular) while the female retina is thinner and has more P cells (parvocellular)

** Brain size**

  • A mans brain is typically about ten percent larger than the female brain.

Relationships
Women have better communication skills and emotional intelligence than men. Women tend to be group-oriented, and apt to seek solutions by talking through issues. Men can have trouble picking up on emotional cues unless they’re clearly verbalized

Language
Women often excel at language-based tasks for two reasons
1)The frontal and temporal areas of the cortex is larger in females than in males. These brain areas are thought to influence language skills; they mature in girls about six years earlier than in boys.

  1. The females process language in both hemispheres while males favor a single brain half.

Stress
When faced with stressful situations, men usually employ ‘fight or flight’ tactics, while women use a ‘tend or befriend’ response. The brain areas that control aggression and anger are larger in women than in men, which may account for some degree in larger male rates of violence.

Likeliness to suffer from neurological disorders
Men are more likely to be dyslexic or have other language disabilities, since they’re more often left-brain dominant. Males are also more prone to autism, ADHD and Tourette’s Syndrome than females, while women are more susceptible to mood disorders like anxiety and depression.
Men tend to have better spatial abilities
The parietal region is thicker in the female brain, Men have a thinner parietal region of the brain than women, which makes it easier for men to mentally visuallise and rotate objects.
