I wrote about few of the enormous benefits of meditation in the last post. Meditation is a way of causing positive change in your life physiologically, psychologically or spiritually. The link to the benefit of meditation is at the end this post, be sure to read it also. What are the five steps to meditating?
Find yourself a quiet place to use.
It can be your room or somewhere serene in your environment. If your house or environment is noisy, you can fix and do your meditations at times when everywhere is quiet like in the night or early in the morning.
Get yourself a timer or alarm.
Focusing on the time while meditating is counter productive. Set a timer and you will not have to worry about time until the alarm sounds. It is a good idea to start with 1 minute everyday for a week, increase it to 3 - 5 minutes the following week, keep doing that until reach your target of 15 or 30 minutes depending on you.
Make your posture comfortable.
The posture has to be comfortable. You may sit in any posture which is comfortable and make you still, it is not advisable to mediatate lying down or in bed as your mind may unconsciously drift to sleeping.
Sit with your spine straight, you may on the floor or even in a chair and again be comfortable as you will be sitting there for the next 10 - 30 minutes.
Sit comfortably and upright with your legs crossed and fingers inter locked. Crossing your legs and interlocked helps to form a circle of energy that give more stability.
Close your mouth, eyes and mind.
Stop all inner or outer chatters. There is no need to chant any mantra. Any chanting including mantra chanting is engaging the mind, so don't do it.
Close your eyes. It is more beneficial and productive when you close you eyes. Eyes and maybe mouth are the doors to the mind ensure you close them.
Relaxing makes consciousness travel to the mind and your intellect.your mind is a bundle of thoughts.
Breath normally and focus on your breaths
Let your breathing occur naturally. Focus on the breathe and don't think.
There is need to observe our breathes, focus on the breathes...but control or rush your breathes.
When your thoughts stray which is normal for beginners even the monks, cancel it out again by focusing on your normal breathing. Soon the density or rate at which your focus strays and thought interrupt reduces.
Finally your breath become very small and form a kind of smallbflash in between the eye brows. In this state, there will low breathe and no thoughts. This state is called the meditator state... In this state, there is a shower of cosmic energy and the more the meditation you do, the more cosmic energy you received which flow to your earthly body
Don't get discouraged at first as your mind may wanders a lot. Don't judge it or yourself. You probably have been living with all thoughts in your head and is not possible to solve that with 1 - 15 minutes meditation. You have to keep doing it to become a master at it.

Great post @golddeejay. One thing that helped me with meditation was to have a guide, there are a lot of free apps you can have on your phone that can help you get started. After a while, I quit guided meditation and start doing it alone and it has been very beneficial for me. People spend a lot of times taking care of the body but often the mind is left unmaintained.
