It's rainy and cold here in Vietnam and I am just fine with that

Before I go on I want to say that "rainy and cold" is a relative term. For those of you that live in properly cold places like Canada or basically anywhere in the world that is north of Georgia or i suppose anywhere at all in Europe, what I am referring to would probably make you want to slap me as you spend an hour in the morning getting the ice off the windows of your car.

It will never get that cold here and that is part of the reason why I continue to choose to live in this part of the world. It is still winter here though and the temperature is vastly different than the rest of the year and at least to me, it is absolutely lovely.

For most of the year this part of the country is so hot that if you are like me you can't really do anything without getting sweaty. It is so hot here in the summer that I have to be very careful about what time of day I take my dog for a walk because she gets overheated very easily and some of those times it has been a bit scary because she had difficulty cooling down. One time I had to give her a cold water bath and considered taking her to the doggie hospital. I never tried to take her on a long walk during the day ever again after that. She just stopped walking at one point and refused to go any further. Poor little darling.

this is not the day of the incident, i don't see tragedy as an opportunity to take pics

That time of year can be considered miserable by many standards. I rarely go outside and when I do I am either going somewhere that has air conditioning or the establishment is going to have a fan that is just for me lest I sweat profusely all over their floor.

While July and August are the worst of these months, the ones around it honestly aren't much better. It is brutally hot basically year round with a couple of months' exception and we are in those months right now.

The temperature during December and January tends to be around 20 degrees (68 degrees F) in the daytime and gets down to as low as 15 (59 degrees F) at night. This is not "cold" and I am aware of this but I'll tell you what - if i could find a place in the world that was this temperature year round I would move there in a heartbeat.

The only bad side-effect of all of this is that this low temperature tends to come with a bunch of rain and while I have not seen it as bad as the picture below, I have seen spot flooding here and there. This is all just part of living in a tropical country though and you have to take the good with the bad

Other bad aspects of this are the toll it takes on your condo. Almost everything in my condo at one point or another has been covered in mold and paint is coming off of certain portions of the walls. I realize that this has to do entirely with poor construction because their must be water that is pooling inside the walls the make that happen in a straight line across the room

What i find odd is that this could easily be solved by having a dehumidifier setting on the air con units and this has always been an option in every other apartment I have ever lived in while in Asia but for some reason, my AC units here do not have this. It's quite odd but I guess every country is different. The bad news is that I hear that breathing in mold is quite bad for you and if it is accumulating on all of my stuff I would imagine I am breathing it into my lungs day and night.

Before I start making it sound like a gloomy situation I should get back to the part about that I LOVE this time of year. I only have 2 pairs of long pants / trousers and I NEVER get a chance to wear them outside of this time of year. To be honest it really isn't necessary even now. I also only have 2 long-sleeved shirts and recently bought a Northface jacket that is obviously fake but is still waterproof.

I guess the moral of the story is that Da Nang is painfully hot most of the year and for people that sweat a lot like me, this can be embarrassing and uncomfortable but hell, I'll take that over chittering my teeth and not being able to feel my toes the way in was when I live in Michigan any day.
