How much is enough?

in life •  6 years ago

I was thinking how many birthday celebration, family event, wedding, child dedication I wasn't able to attend cause I was making a living. Earning was my main priority. I came from a working middle class that worries every bills that is due.

I have an idea of winning a lotto will make my life easier. It will solve problems not just mine but relatives, friends even the country. I am ready to share whatever I won. But I've never heard any lotto winners solve any problems of someone else. Is money not enough? But that is big amount of money!? How is not possible to improve someone else life? Was it really not enough?

As a human being, we always want more. We have an idea that if we could earn a little bit more it could satisfy our needs. We follow people in instagram, facebook and twitter imagining what we can do if we earn a little bit more. We wishes to experience how is like to have those stuff, wearing those Gucci, driving the latest car. The idea of consumerism.

Consumerism

is a social and economic order and ideology that encourages the acquisition of goods and services in ever-increasing amounts

Is it really satisfying having those?
I don't know. I'm not in the position to answer the question maybe I can answer that if my net worth is more than a million. For those who are reading this who falls under the category of a "millionaire", does your money satisfy you? Or are you still like us who wishes for more? Does your income satisfy your need?

Our income is directly proportional with our expenses. Can I conclude that my income will not satisfy my need? Or was it just my want?

Wealth gives people false sense of security. The idea behind it is more wealthy you are the more secure the future will be. It gives you the false hope that the future will be easier to leave in. It gives you an idea you can be whatever you wish or powerful as you wanted.

There is no exact value of money will make us satisfy in life. I believe that it is more satisfying to share whatever we have to those who are more in need. It makes me realize how much I have.

Don't look a cup as half empty but realize it was half full.

Looking at those lotto winners abroad, a lot of them spent all of theirs and were back to how they were after a few years...worst off than before.
I guess it's not how much we have but on how we spend and (invest) what we have.

Enough is when there's no poverty and starving children on the streets.

@grazz. If someone gave me 600k to pay our house off I would be so happy. That means we can breathe a little, maybe go out to dinner every now and then. Having a baby wouldnt be such a concern.

To me, having my house paid off IS security. I'll have a roof over my head, my family will always somewhere to live. If that isnt security I dont know what is.

Maybe things are different in the Philippines and you guys can afford to have that attitude towards wealth and money?

But 600k will make me plenty satisfied.
