The price of avocados actually came down a bit this past week at least at Walmarts in SE Texas, $0.58 apeace instead of the dollar apiece we've been seeing.
Time to experiment... Let's see if we can find a way to make this favorite of all dips really inexpensive.
Bananas are the best bargain in all grocery stories, always around 40 cents a pound, nourishing, sweet... Humans actually share some 60% of our DNA with the banana, indicating that we've been eating bananas pretty much forever.
And bananas have pretty nearly the same texture and consistency as avocados; you don't suppose.....
I tried this the other night and I thought it was pretty good. Basic ingredients are all available at Walmart:
Avacados
Bananas (not green but not totally ripe yet)
Salt
Green salsa
Ginger paste
Store brand tomatoes and green chiles
Use equal volumes of avocados and bananas, mash the bananas and avocados up with as much of the tomatoes and green chiles as you'd want for your desired consistency, and then experiment with the other ingredients. I'd go light on the green salsa.
Pretty simple really. Again I thought it was good and with the bananas there was no need to add sugar.
