It seems like it's impossible to receive support from many of your friends and family when you want to stop drinking, but you aren't an alcoholic.
It's usually the opposite - they pressure you when you try to abstain.
Then the support arrives when, it's too late, and alcohol addiction is severe.
I've watched this happen in my family. My uncle, one of the most amazing humans I've met died from stomach cancer, likely caused by alcohol consumption. My cousin, who has two young children, can't stop drinking an is dying from appendicitis (caused and aggravated by alcohol).
But when you say, "I don't need a drink", there are dirty looks, bullying, complaining, and even disgust.
I think we need to revise our relationship with alcohol as a society.
