• Question the Perpetrator’s intention. Ask directly for an explanation:
- What did you mean?
- Why would you say that?
- Could you please explain?
- What is it about (name the issue or subject) that you don’t like?
Direct questions force the Perpetrator to make specific comments— probing for the truth usually makes them feel uncomfortable because they’re being called upon to own up to their insults.
