I've been traveling since last year May, to many countries, and I've been in Israel for a few months now.
One of the first things I noticed, was people leave things outside their homes that they don't use anymore. I've seen everything from tv's, to couches (in very good condition), to clothes, shoes, food, even an old espresso machine. At first I found it odd, but after asking around a bit, I realized it was very common. Apparently some poorer people even make a business out of it by going around and collecting this stuff and re-selling it!
The people giving this stuff away could easily make a couple of hundred bucks selling this stuff, but they choose to place it outside, so that anyone who needs it, may take it. What a beautiful thing to do! I haven't seen anything quite like it in any of the places i've been.
This is another thing i've personally seen more than a couple of times. I use the bus to get around here. Someone gets on and is a bit short on cash to pay the driver. Without fail, someone gets up and pays for them. I love it! I've done this myself for someone.
Those who give know how good it feels, its a much nicer feeling than taking.
Thanks for reading.
That is true @hattorihanzo, giving is great! :D
I've been promoting gift economy here in Gothenburg, Sweden now for many years and we have regular gift circles, clotheswaps, gift shop etc. Now i'm thinking about ways how I can integrate this with Steemit. I'm thinking about inviting people to a big gift circle and introduce them to Steemit, setup accounts and then having regular meet ups where we post like a node if we are hosting a gift circle and people can comment what they would like to give and receive. It will market Steemit to a group that's already into gifting and also make the circles more effective as we can focus on giving and recieving services/things. I believe it can really take the concept of gift circles to the next level! :)

In Sweden you don't have to buy any food. The stores throw away so much that's not even close to going bad. It's insane and it's hard to believe to what extent before you see it with your own eyes!

Here also you pay for the bottle when you buy a drink and after you can take all the bottles you have to the markets or shops and change them so you get your money back. Reciclying all the way! You do not see so many bottle in the streets 😉
