War and peace

in life •  7 years ago

As a very first post (aside from my self introduction), I'd like to share with Steemians what has been on my mind recently. I like movies. Recently I have come across two films on war. "Hacksaw Ridge" is one of them. IMG_5967.PNG

This movie was based on a true story about an American young man, a Christian, who refused to carry any weapons in the war. Yet he bravely saved 75 wounded soldiers from the bloody battlefield. More miraculously, he himself was not hurt at all.

The other is an 18-hour, 10-part documentary, "Vietnam War", produced by PBS of the US.

The film makers tried to find out the truth behind the war which ended 40 years ago. The war was portrayed from many different angles, such as those of the soldiers, the anti-war citizens, even the decision-making process of Presidents Johnson and Nixon. This was the American point of view. On the other hand, the Vietnamese soldiers and families were also interviewed to talk about their stories. As a result, the whole picture is quite different from the previous ones on the war.

War and peace is a serious issue. But as human beings, we cannot but ponder what role we should play in our own country. I like the organization "Doctors Without Borders". I am dubious about the proposition that nation-state is the best for everybody's utmost well-being. It's hard for self-centered individuals to live together, let alone nation-states.

What do you think?

Thank you very much.

I've watched Hacksaw Ridge more than three times:))

What has moved you most?

I was touched by his faith in God how he stood firm and bold even when everyone looked down on him,yet proving others wrong at the end.

Thank you very much for your response. I was also greatly moved by his conviction and courage.
