Living in a BOX

Living space in Johannesburg is not easy to find, this new project makes use of a small amount of space to accommodate people in an innovative fashion. The core focus points of community and creativity mean that this development is unlike any other in the city

Giuseppe Lignano and Ada Tolla of New York-based architecture firm and upcycling experts LOT-EK spent the last 3 years making Drivelines a reality. This is the first large-scale residential container development in South Africa and sets the standard high for sustainable, affordable housing and proves that this property segment too
can strive to a higher aesthetic ideal. These factors were the driving force behind the concept.

The project, which comprises a multi-level structure created from shipping containers stand at the very entrance to Maboneng as a gateway of sorts and has generated a lot of interest among the public already, it’s clearly speaking to an audience looking for an alternative style of living.
