Eggs can explode! And I'm not talking rotten ones -I'm speaking of peeled boiled eggs.   My usual routine of re-heating my parents breakfast while my dad was at a skilled nursing facility was routine. Firat I put the 2 pre-peeled boiled eggs in the microwave for , I don't know - 30'secs or a minute. Then I pulled them out and placed the oatmeal in the microwave. It was at that moment that I felt a blast wave on my face as I heard a loud gun shot type sound.  On the wall in front of me were fragments of egg. The plate was empty. I looked to my right and there was egg all over the side of the ice machine in the nutrition room. I looked to my left and there was egg all over the side of the refrigerator. It was surprising that no one hadn't rushed in the room to investigate the shotgun type sound. I thought -ok,  I can clean this up - no one will know. The I looked up at the 9 ft ceiling and egg was all over the ceiling. Walking out to the nurses station, I confessed what had happened and the nurse says " yea, I believe you - its all over or face and in your hair!"

Fascinated by what had happened I read where exploding eggs are so common that there is even a push to put warning labels on microwaves. Some folks have had one explode when biting into it- ouch! Apparently the yolk has so much fat that the white can only hold back the energy so long before it gives way to the power.  The microwave energy heats from the inside of the object. What do you know about this phenomenon?  Have you had personal experiences with an egg exploding or someone you know?
