Yep, you heard it right. Last week we, here in Charleston, SC, received over five inches of snow, in one of the largest snowfalls in decades. When it comes to weather, we are typically skeptical. Living on the coast, there are constant threats of hurricanes in the summer and fall, leaving us with an "I'll believe in when I see it" mentality.
Last Wednesday, we woke up with weather forecasts calling for 100% chance of snow all afternoon. My husband and I rolled our eyes and thought the weathermen were just overreacting. We might get a dusting, we thought. Boy, were we wrong! The morning started slow, with just overcast skies and light drizzles. As soon as the noon hour hit, the drizzle quickly turned into freezing rain. We were still skeptical. We thought it would die off and life would return to normal. However, the freezing rain quickly turned into big flakes of snow. Again, we thought this won't last. I went outside and played in the snow, thinking that I should savor while it lasts. This was the first snowfall I've experienced since moving here in September 2012.
After a few minutes in the snow (I'm a Southerner at heart and do not do cold temperatures well), I headed back inside and back to working. Throughout the day, I glanced outside and noticed the snow was STILL coming down. Later in the day, after I noticed that we had far from a dusting, I went outside determined to build a snowman. With the help of some neighbors, I built my "snow-woman". I was surprised at how fluffy the snow was and how hard it was to pack into a ball to make a snowman. (I'm a rookie at this whole snow thing, after all). After building my "snow-woman", I headed in for the night.
The weathermen kept stressing that this snow was going to stick around for a while, with temperatures not getting significantly above freezing for days. I resigned myself to staying inside and off the roads until it cleared up. Thursday morning through Thursday afternoon came with a significant amount of snow on the ground. By Thursday night, cabin fever set in and we ventured to the bar across the street. (Apparently, we weren't the only ones who had cabin fever, the bar was packed!)
The snow stuck around all weekend with the frigid temperature. It's now Monday and there is still some snow on the ground and ice on the roads. I finally ventured out to the gym this morning. The temperatures are FINALLY going to get back in the 50's (normal for this time of year) and hopefully melt the last of the snow. As happy as I was to see the snow, I am happier that it is finally leaving and we can resume normal Charleston life. Anyways, here are some pictures from the snowfall.
Wow! that is rare! :O
Must have been super duper cold there.
Even the cold couldn't stop the snowman getting the WOD done! :D
stay warm, Cheers!

Yeah we had about 7 days of below freezing temps. Happy to have my beach weather back. My snowman was my WOD partner...haha.
