"How to be Self-Aware?" is a question we all need to ask at some point. For those who don't yet realize it, there is a big difference between what we think and feel and what we do. We can control our feelings and emotions but not our actions. So if we want to be self-aware, first step is to recognize your reactions, then analyze them.
How do you feel like? Do you feel like being successful? Do you find that people are drawn to you, attracted to your good nature, your strengths? Do you find yourself inspired and excited by the opportunities in front of you? If the answers to these questions is yes, then we have established that we are self-aware!
How to Be Self-Aware and What We Can Learn From It We can begin a process of becoming more self-aware by asking ourselves questions like: How do I respond when I am criticized for my strengths or weaknesses? What does success mean to me? Am I happy with my strengths or my weaknesses? Am I fearful of my weaknesses or my strengths? By being self-aware we gain insight into how we handle negative feelings and actions.
Journaling - Everyday Life Tip One: To be self-aware we must understand the human nature that we are a subjective being meaning that we value our own perspective and personal opinions more than others'. So, instead of focusing on what others think, try to find the right words to say to yourself in your journal or as you do things. Write about what you notice in everyday life that gives you encouragement and motivation or that makes you feel down or discouraged. When you keep track of the positive things in your environment, you will find that you will also notice the things that can distract you from being self-aware and that keep you from taking action towards improving your well-being and success.
When we notice our emotions or our reactions around us, it is vital to note it in our journals or diaries so that we will know how we react when similar situations appear in the future. However, note down only the facts without dwelling too much on them. How to be self-aware is to know how to manage your emotions and focus on only the facts. This way, you will eventually stop living in the clouds and start living in the here and now.
Self-Awareness and Actionable Behavior Most people are not aware that they have a certain set of beliefs, emotions and behaviors which they perform unconsciously. We often do not notice that our reaction is based on an unconscious pattern or programmed response. There is a good chance that this set of responses has been inculcated or taught to us during our childhood years. What we need to do is to find a way to challenge these patterns or, if it is too difficult, we have to find a way to replace them with new ones. The key to effective self-awareness is to look carefully at your reaction to events or situations as they occur.
The Power of Thinking One of the best ways to be self-aware is to think about what your strengths and weaknesses are. You can ask a professional to help you with this, but if you are still in a rut and feel that thinking will not help you, just take time out to observe how you react to situations, and be honest with yourself about what you think of yourself. It is important to identify your weaknesses so that you can develop your strengths and build on your strengths. If you find that you have a lot of weaknesses, then you have to determine how to make up for them. Identifying your strengths and weaknesses gives you a clear picture of your true worth and your position in the world, and it helps you to be more self-aware and self-confident.
The Power of Movement Self-awareness starts with an assessment of how you move and what you are doing. Are you using your legs a lot when walking? Do you prefer to stand or sit for most of your time, and do you find that certain body parts serve you better than others? While there is great advice on self-awareness in the arts (such as dance, reading, music, sports, etc), it is mostly overlooked by many people, and it is most definitely a part of the emotional makeup of the person.
