Quality of Life is important in all areas of your life, and Quantity of Life is equally important. Quality of life is defined by the philosophical doctrine, "What is useless is not worth while; what is valuable is not desirable." It is a concept of value judgment. It means that what is good for you is what you should pursue and what you should avoid doing to yourself.
Quality of Life vs. Quantity of Life. Quality of Life, or the quality and enjoyment of life, is an essential component of happiness. The pursuit of pleasure is the pursuit of happiness. It involves positive mental attitude, and self-discipline. It involves the use of creativity, innovation, working with others, and having the will power to overcome obstacles and live a successful and fulfilling life.
Quantity of Life, or the quantity of life, is the opposite of quality. The best definition of Quantity of Life is "the amount of good and happiness you are capable of producing." Quantity of life, as the quality of life, involves how much good and happiness you can produce within you given your skills, talents, education, resources and motivation. Quantity of life, unlike quality, is an abstract concept that depends largely on what you focus on and how you define the good and happiness in your life.
The two concepts are often used interchangeably, however, there are major differences between them. Quality of life, which is the total sum of all the aspects of life that are valued as important to a person's existence, including both subjective aspects (what you think of yourself) and objective aspects (what others think of you). Quantity of life, on the other hand, is the total amount of good and happiness you can personally produce within your lifetime. The goal of the Quantity of Life is to live a productive and meaningful life.
In contrast, quality of life is typically focused on improving a person's experience of life and enhancing his capacity for personal growth and fulfillment. On the other hand, Quantity of Life is primarily an emotional response to the demands of everyday life. It is about managing the demands and achieving balance and satisfaction. This is how you would achieve quality of life.
Many of today's "masters" are people who have experienced life's challenges. The fact is, people are born with little or no control over issues that will confront their lives in the future. However, even if they have little or no control, it does not mean that they should let go and give up. Many people who have experienced many of life's challenges have experienced tremendous quality of life gains, including: personal growth, financial security, health, and greater emotional well being.
On the other hand, many "brag" online "elites" complain about their lack of life experience. They complain about how they can't take on any challenges because they have no life experience, or because their parents don't raise them right. They have no idea how to deal with real, non-life challenges, such as: money problems, relationship problems, job issues, or finding creative ways to make money without having to reinvent the wheel. They have no idea how to grow as an individual, making mistakes, learning from those mistakes and growing stronger.
Therefore, when someone debates whether or not life is about quality vs. quantity, I would recommend that they take a step back, examine their own lives, and come to an honest, unbiased answer. If they haven't done so, I would encourage them to seek out the support of an executive coach, mentor, or therapist to help them enhance their life experiences. After all, we all have to begin somewhere. In the meantime, perhaps all the "experts" out there are right... after all, there are so many important things in our lives to consider. It's more important to focus on living a complete life, one that includes quality of life versus just Quantity of Life.
