Last week my planning fell apart. I didn’t prep well for the weeks eating because it was a 3 day weekend and I was enjoying time with my family. I figured I would catch up on Monday night. Then, life happened.
The good news is that we are all still here, alive & fed. The bad news is that I spent $100 over my budget because I wasn’t prepared. The whole situation allowed me to remember that this is WHY I do what I do. I do not enjoy the stress of figuring out what to do for dinner or the expense that was incurred. That is a big reason why I plan and prep – to keep the chaos at bay. It isn’t easy, but it makes my life simple.
My husband was in a car accident a month or so ago and we took the car in to be looked at on Monday. The news wasn’t good. By Tuesday afternoon, the insurance adjuster said the car is a total loss. This added lots of running around, information gathering, dropping off information, getting estimates and looking at possible new vehicles. My parents graciously let us take one of their cars as we try to sort this situation out. We still aren’t sure of what the outcome will be – if we will keep the car with a salvaged title & repair it or if we will have to actually go out and find a new car for them. We have until Tuesday afternoon to decide. Right now, the car is with our trusted mechanic being reviewed so that if we elect to keep it we know that mechanically it is still sound. So, if you are so inclined, I would ask for your prayers as I am struggling to know what is the right thing for us to do.
The menu plan result is this… we still have several meals from last week left to eat. I have prepped them and we will use them this week. The meals planned for this week will stay in the freezer for now. I have moved on to planning July’s menu and will include them in that. Hopefully, utilizing them will allow me to recoup some of the cost in my budget. Part of what threw me for a loop this week was 2 rugby games that ran into dinner time. By the time we got home and cooked (even ready in 30 minutes meal) it would have been after 7:30 p.m. and we were already starving. I will be paying closer attention to those days and will be utilizing my crock-pot to ensure we have a hot dinner waiting at home.
It isn’t easy admitting that I failed {which is how I feel} here to all of you. No matter what happens, I am committed to sharing it with you. The good, the bad and if it happens, the ugly too. My life isn’t perfect. I make plans, mistakes and bad decisions. I hope that by sharing how I work my way down the path it will help someone else. I know that sounds simple, or even easy – but it is who I am and why I am doing this.
