What Would the World Look like in a Totalitarian Regime?

Have you ever wondered how the world would look like if most states steered towards totalitarianism? There are many countries in today's society that are only apparently open, while the population who lives there is actually oppressed and lives in fera.

But what if all or most states would impose and authoritative regime that gave little or no space to individual liberty. Does it sound like a SF scenario?

With more and more people complaining about capitalism, I think it's not impossible to live again in a society that's dominated by force, punishment and strictness.

Coming from an ex-communist country, Romania, makes it easier for me to imagine a world with totalitarian values being forced upon everybody and, especially if you've been there, it's a horror movie scenario.

I still can't believe that even in my country some people still say it was better back in the communist period because everybody had a job and a house and life was safer and you didn't have to struggle like today in a capitalist world.

But the negative things they fail to mention include the fact that many were forced to be part of the communist party, failure to do so could result in imprisonment; intellectuals were oppressed and sent to jail, people who were considered enemies of the sate disappeared in the night ad nobody dared to make an official request to see what really happened to them.

The list can go on and on but I guess that people always forget the past when they start generating too much hate and frustration for the present. However, we should always use the past to prepare for the future and to make wiser choices in the years to come.
