Today, it is almost impossible to go on a social media platform or on to browse through a lifestyle magazine and not find a post referring to positivity and mindfulness. While these things are quite useful if integrated properly in one’s routine, sometimes we feel that there is too much emphasis on them. Wherever you turn, you hear or read advice about how to live the moment and let go of all your worries and how you should prevent negative people from damaging your bright aura.

Unfortunately, these negative people can’t be dealt with so easily. Just like problems, their presence simply happens and you cannot bypass them or close your eyes, say a mantra and hope they will disappear.

A positive attitude is an extremely useful tool in overcoming difficulties of all sorts. However, it is not the only means of dealing with problems. By definition, problems are critical situations that need practical solutions. Therefore, the only way of tackling them is actually doing something in order to regain peace and tranquility.

However, by sticking to the idea that you only need to think positively in order to make things move in your favor due to a cosmical order you cannot understand or prove, might proof useless, if not harmful altogether.

Practicing positivity in a genuine and totally natural way is one thing, forcing yourself to think or act in a positive manner is a totally different matter. This type of attitude is not positive and it does not help you defeat your fears and solve your problems. Fake positivity, functions just like any other artificial product behavior, it eventually fails and when it does so, it leaves you even emptier than before.

As psychologists say, the first step in dealing with an issue is admitting you’ve got it. The same can be applied here. If deep down inside you know that your positive attitude does not truly reflect your current emotions and state of mind, start by accepting the fact that you simply can’t think positive, not all the time or at least not for the time being.

Accepting your negative emotions and realizing what is causing them can be ten times more practical and beneficial that pretending that everything is good when it actually isn’t. Don’t worry that you will lose you capacity to have a positive outlook if you admit your faults and you face your problems courageously.

Negative emotions that stem from bad experiences are not a bullet in your perfect aura. They are the very reason that urges you to grow and gain more spirituality and self-knowledge. Take advantage of critical situations and don’t let them get the best of you. The only way to do that is by going straight ahead, with clarity, honesty and courage.

Solving a problem is always more difficult than simply talking about it, but there is no other way to go about it. Faking positivity is not a solution, it is merely a manner of postponing the things that you dread
