I am at a point in my life where I feel a bit puzzled.
I left my home two years ago and started travelling in South Africa. Two years later, I am still here and I spent the most incredible time of my life. My boyfriend is an unconditional traveller (also an hard worker when it is needed), and we have had a lot of exciting adventures together, a few travels, different jobs... another way of life indeed.
His motto: live your dreams, nothing is impossible and if you put energy in something you gonna be successful. Fair enough ...
We never had lots of money, but we never lacked money either. We can say that "we always made a plan''. And at the same time we really had good times. Still, at the moment I have the impression that I have to settle, find a good job and start "building"something, building my life.
Isn't it stupid? It sounds like I haven't built anything, like this past two years were useless. However, I learnt so many things! Why reduce all this experiences to nothing? Often my friend say "you're so lucky Isa" or "What do you do to have so much fun?". Well... between the fun that you'll see on Facebook there is also some work, I just try to make it as pleasant as possible.
So why does it sound like my life is made of fun, and it is not gonna be possible to carry on like that much longer ?
I know why: because society hasn't taught us to live this way. How do we value people in general? By their profession, their salary, the type of house they live in or the car they are driving.... Of course from this point view, me and my backpack don't look very serious!
You see, I am totally puzzled! I have failed an interview not so long ago, for a nice position. Suddenly I realized how relieved I was. First, I realized that I was not really passionate about the field I was suppose to work in (tourism, and believe me being a traveller doesn't make you love tourism especially, but that could be the subject of an other post...). I want to be my own boss, and work as a craftsman (or craftswoman correct?). Most of the people would tell me it's too late to start something new, and that, you know, it is hard to be your own boss and start from scratch... They will also tell me I won't make much money for many years.
Here we are! Money.
Everything revolves around it. In 2017 on Planet Earth if you don't make money you are buggered. I could agree with that, but actually it is more: if you don't make A LOT of money you are done. Why should my happiness be based on that fact? Don't get me wrong, not having to worry about money makes a difference, but I mean it shouldn't be the only thing to consider.
Can't we live happily in an alternative way? I think that yes we can, but this way always seems to be so complicated and risky, just because our hole education have been based on the fact that making money is the first thing we have to worry about to be happy in the future.
But by spending our lives making money, don't we end up by forgetting to be happy? Do we actually have time to worry about it or are we just too busy making money?
Anyway, I think I can try and be a craftswoman, making enough to allow me enjoying my travels every now and again. And after all, if people don't take me seriously, should I care ?
Share your opinion with me! I hope you enjoyed this article which was a bit introspective and unusual for me.
Don't forgot to comment, upvote, follow, or be unconventional and do nothing ;)

Dear @isa-za, you shouldn't care if people take you seriously or not. I think your doubts and fears are normal, but just choose with your heart. And if you fail, fail fast and learn. You've got time to do it over and over again. Thats life :)

That's very wise and very true! I don't think I will let me be to influenced by the others' opinions, but I think there is a pressure from the society in general. Of course people get more or less sensitive to it. Thanks for your comment :)
