Warning Signs of Dangerously Obsessive People

Whether you are in a relationship or just chatting with people online, it is possible that you may encounter people with dangerously obsessive tendencies.
I’m presenting a list of some warning signs to look out for in order to successfully spot these types of people before it's too late.
While one or two of these examples alone may not indicate obsessive behavior, a combination of them usually does.

Warning Signs / Red Flags

  • Floods your inbox with messages after only knowing you for a short time and might exhibit anger or frustration if you don’t respond quickly enough.

  • Lacks personal boundaries. Offers an inappropriate amount of personal information after only knowing you for a short amount of time. Makes inappropriately premature intimate comments to you or about you on social media. For example, telling you that you are soul mates or telling others that you are in a relationship when you aren’t.

  • Exhibits inappropriate jealousy and controlling behavior. For example, getting angry if you talk to others or trying to prevent others from talking to you.

  • Behaves like a stalker. Follows you around in public or online. Contacts you on various social media sites. Posts pics of you online without your knowledge.

  • Implies or tells others that you are in a relationship when you actually aren’t.

  • Extremely critical and plays on your weaknesses in an attempt to make you feel insecure.

  • Exhibits emotionally abusive behavior like Gaslighting. Tries to manipulate you into thinking that you are the one who is the problem and that their unacceptable behavior is your fault. Doesn’t take responsibility for their own feelings and blames you for causing them to act in emotionally abusive ways. Systematically manipulates you until you start to question reality.

  • Engages in Doxxing you. Searches for your private information online and may even share it with others.

  • Ignores requests of “No” or “blocking”. Continues to find avenues to contact you through others or sock accounts.

  • Contacts other people who know you and says horrible and untrue things about you if they feel rejected.

  • Becomes emotionally unstable, angry, or violent upon rejection. They may direct this anger toward you or threaten to hurt themselves.

  • Blames others for their own lack of success
  • Starts off being nice then later becomes aggressive and controlling
  • Goes out of their way to help you so that you "owe" them
  • Lives in isolation and tries to get you to live the same way so they have you all to themselves

Phew! I'm not a dangerously obsessive personality! Hooray! Being an anxious type I was worried there for a minute :) thanks for the clarification!

Don't worry, I'll stop messaging you 😂
Seriously though it sounds like you've had experience with the darker side of the online world. Great advice.

I've only known a couple of people like this, but a couple of them is more than enough.

I guess such 'soulmates' (dark sarcasm intended) really take you to the next level of doubting even the original ones, which is devastating at times considering the opportunities of knowing newer and better people. For that matter, let me ask, how do we differentiate between actually good and caring people and these dangerously obsessive ones?

Respects your boundaries. A person that doesn't respect your boundaries and gets pissy about it is a red flag.

I get it. But can we consider it a thumb rule?

Thank you for this isaria seriously-I feel like you just read my mind. Now I'm rethinking who I'm talking to 😂💗seriously

Nice one !
Great compilation dear @isaria !!
