UNUSUAL MEASURES OF PUNISHMENT IN THE USA

in life •  6 years ago

which the states of the USA do not imprison petty criminals, but punish them differently ... Other punishments put pressure not on your wallet or your freedom, but on your sense of shame.

For example, drivers in New York were forced to stick a bright sticker on their car that read "I was driving while drunk."

In Oregon and Florida, criminals who committed a non-violent crime are forced to place special badges on their entire property.

Very instructive done in California. They decided to punish the shoplifter in a peculiar way - they were forced to wear a T-shirt that says "I am a thief".

Even more interesting was made in Seattle forcing one woman to wear a sign with the inscription "I am engaged in molesting minors".

Pleasantly surprised and Southern California. There, the court sentenced a man to sit for ten days under his walls with a sign "I was drunk driving." I think such a ten-day shame influenced him much more than any fine.

And in Hoboken, New Jersey, those who decided to relieve themselves in a public place were forced to clean the streets.

In Maryland, juveniles who were charged with misconduct are forced to kneel down and apologize to their victims. The interest of local justice lies in the fact that they will be released only if the affected person believes in the sincerity of his abuser.

In Tennessee, burglary thieves were sentenced to a very interesting punishment: they were obliged to open their homes to those people whom they robbed, and to allow them to take in their home what they want. As for me, it is very fair and instructive.

Completing our collection of unusual punishments is New York, where the owner of a provincial slum was sentenced to house arrest in one of his terrible, rat-populated apartments.

It is pleasant to read that even the justice of the court sometimes happens with a twist!
