Seeing Perfectionism As A Disease

in life •  3 years ago

Seeing Perfectionism is a terrible thing. I mean, what's the point of being happy if you're always going to be disappointed? You know the feeling...you make plans for the week, go out with your friends, and then realize that you're going to be up late the next day trying to fix the worst mistake you've made during the week. That's not what you signed up for, is it?

We all have these ideas of perfecting ourselves and living our lives by them. Unfortunately, these ideas don't work. What works best is letting go of our ideas, accepting that there is no such thing as 'perfect', and then working towards having true happiness. See, that doesn't make it sound like a terrible thing. It just means that we all have the ability to make mistakes and live life by the sword. (I'm a lawyer by the way).

Here's a little exercise to help you let go of the idea of perfect. Get yourself a box of old clothes, make sure they are clean and in good repair. Then go through one of your closet and randomly pick out something that you feel could use improvement, whether it is the way you tie your shirt or whether your tie ties are big enough...just do it. You'll soon find that your life is starting to become more streamlined because you're no longer seeing perfection everywhere.

If we've convinced ourselves that we need to have things perfect, then what's stopping us from actually having those things? Maybe we could start seeing our flaws, our imperfections, as something to be proud of instead of hiding away in shame. If we don't like what we have, we can work on fixing it, so that we can love what we have instead of hiding it and being embarrassed of it. We all have our flaws. We should be proud of them instead of sitting in silence and pretending they don't exist.

So how can see your imperfections help you live a better life? By changing your thinking and turning it into something positive, you'll realise that you're not perfect, you just need to work on your personality a bit more. You might even think about becoming more relaxed about it all. If you're someone who likes to hold their head high and think highly of themselves, seeing yourself in a slightly different light will do wonders for you. By seeing your life in its true colours, you'll soon come to terms with the imperfections that you possess in a constructive way, instead of hiding away from them.

There are plenty of beautiful things out there in the world, but most of us don't see them because we're too wrapped up in perfection. We need to stop being so focused on that and start appreciating all that we have. We need to get rid of the "perfect" part of it. Once you do that, you can see yourself as being truly and completely beautiful, regardless of the flaws that you may have.
