American/Hungarian from SF,CA area. Journal Introduction

in life •  7 years ago

I am currently 24 years old living in the San Francisco bay area and attending college at Las Positas College in Livermore, CA. I was born as the youngest of my eight siblings, six of whom share the same mother. Life growing up was primarily focused around church. I attended along with my family for as long as I can remember. This changed quickly upon realizing that I could avoid church by going to work instead. So, I began working at McDonald’s when I was fourteen and have been working in some capacity or another ever since.

High school was an important time for the growth of my social capabilities. I maintained top tier grades throughout but, the hardest part for me was learning to socialize without containing myself. Thanks to a friend, I was able to build my confidence and express myself for who I truly am, as opposed to who I thought others wanted me to be. By the end of my high school career, I felt like there was nothing that could stop me from conquering my dreams and exploring the world.

After graduation, I set my sights on a new quest. Move to the country of Slovakia and teach English for a year. My father is a Hungarian immigrant, however, his family was forced to live in Slovakia by the USSR. Thus, the majority of his family is still living there.

George T. Farmos and I

I moved in with my cousin Ferdinand’s family and spent the year teaching English, travelling via Eurail, and drinking much more than anyone should. Had you spoken with me at the time, I may have seemed depressed. Absence from family and friends for an extended period of time has that effect. At this point, however, I only have a vivid memory of the good times. Such as running to catch a train with a giant travelling backpack while puking in the street from a night of partying. Or being kissed by a weird French guy at Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. Or walking through the sex museum in Amsterdam and then getting stoned and eating popcorn while watching hookers dance in the windows (because hookers are fun to watch but not a good idea to fuck). These experiences, along with many others, are what I will speak about when asked of my life and travels. These experiences are the socially and conversationally enjoyable topics. The real me, however, was formed in the meantime. The in between time. The time I spent sitting alone on my computer with very few fluent English speakers near me and even fewer who were interested in holding regular conversations. Which, looking back, would have probably helped maintain my sanity. While spending this time away, I began to fully understand how little of the world we explain to our youth. I could dive into detail on this topic but, that is for another time. For now, I will simply summarize my trip to Slovakia as an amazing experience. One where I was able to deeply explore Central and East Europe while also providing [California] English conversation lessons.

Upon my return from Slovakia, I hopped into the life of drugs. While I was away a friend had passed away in a drunk driving accident and the old light of high school bliss was quickly extinguished. I would drive around with my fat homie who handed me handfuls of random pills and we would see where the day took us. Normally, we just ended up at another friend’s house to do some coke or molly and drink 40s. This went on for about a year, up until I overdosed and almost died. From that point it was about two years of basic recovery and another two years before feeling like I caught up to my mental potential. Those first two years are a blur of random restaurant jobs and occasional relapses, none of which resulted in anything substantial.
As far as I know.

The second two years, however, were filled with a newfound interest in life and this resulted in lots of excitement. I decided to get up off my ass and pursue something. The first thought was move to LA and get rich for being cool. This, for the most part, is actually not how it works. Many people will tell you the same thing. Much fewer of whom have tried it for themselves. The majority of Southern California is simply too crowded and geographically destitute. The people are not able to enjoy the simplicity of beautiful views and healthy environments. Thus, they rely on superficial activities or items to fill the region’s void of natural beauty.

Back to me. I lived in LA for a total of 8 months and then took another shot at Southern California by moving to San Diego. These cities both have their own gems and amazing features, of which I have plenty stories and fond memories. However, the San Francisco bay and surrounding areas of Northern California are truly unfuckwitable.

At this point, I have been both physically and mentally steady for about two years. I am actively pursuing the knowledge needed to fulfill my goals and am excited for the future. Save my name and look out for upcoming entries :)
