Jacob Goes Off Grid Day 44 Part 1

in life •  6 years ago

This is a video from Day 44 of going off-grid. I went 'off grid' five hundred and eighty-two days ago and it has been quite the journey since I got dropped off at this old fallow farm and built (continue to build) all my own infrastructure. I have been video documenting the entire process and have just recently begun publicly sharing some of the videos. I have been sharing the videos privately since I started the entire process which I call Jacob Goes Off Grid In The Woods. 'Day 1' is the morning after I arrived at this little place in the mountains in the 'dead of winter' on January thirteenth of two thousand and seventeen with my dogs, my wits, minimal gear and very little hard currency to work with. Slowly I have done my best to breathe life into a very old farm and give it all my best, 'learning as I go', and documenting the process as best I can. It has been quite the journey so far. @jacobpeacock

I have encoded this video to 240p to help make it easier to upload over my intermittent and throttled cellphone connection.

In this video I show where I have made a better trail at the rear of the shack and used the dirt that I excavated to add to the berm beside the shack.

I explain some about how the pavers (flat rocks) were making my benches and chair near the 'fire cave' too tippy so I moved them.

I show how all the pavers (flat rocks) have created a nice area beside the shack to keep me (and the dogs) from having to walk in the mud.

I talk about working up on the hill near the old chicken coop and cleaning up the area around it some more. The dry stack stone walls that I mention are remnants of the old farm that used to be on the property.

I show a pile of timber that I have collected for firewood and explain why I stack it the way that I do.

As always this is just a summary of the video's content and not meant to explain everything that I cover in the video.

you're so lucky, i wish i could live in farmland, i genuinely hate the city, it's nothing but violent crime, drug dens, corrupted bureaucracy's, and so on, the list is endless, the big city, is literally hell, someday, i hope to get out....

Yeah I never lose sight of how fortunate I am. I worked hard for it though and did a lot of other property care-taking at several different places before I landed where I am. I hope you find a way out one day.
