Jealousy is a kind of emotion that we all experience from time to time in our life while managing certain relations whether it is friendship, marriage, family or work. I usually say that jealousy has a second name too and that is “relationship killer”. No relation can last long if jealously is enrooted in it. It is one of those things that cause major rifts in relations and hearts. It causes great threats to the future of a certain relationship.
Jealousy comes with many different disguises and can also take many different forms. It is such a disastrous feeling that can dismantle a beautiful relationship even before it actually begins. Yes, I know, when you pour your heart out to someone, when you offer a piece of yourself to another, when you open up your whole world to some special individual, you put so much of yourself at stake. There comes a sense of vulnerability when you share your deepest secret to someone that you have never ever shared with anyone else before. You become so close to some people that you don’t want to lose them at any possible cost. In such relations, insecurity and instability are the common feelings that trigger jealousy at times. Look, it is natural to be jealous to some extent but the most important thing is not to get insecure to the level that becomes threatening for the relationships.
- What Causes Jealousy?
There are so many different ways that jealousy can be present in certain relationships. If you don’t want your relationships to suffer from this unwanted feeling, you need to carefully analyze and understand its origins as well as the underlying causes. You need to evaluate that what particular thing or experience is causing jealousy inside you.
Let’s discuss some common experiences or behaviors that become the cause of jealousy.
- Your Past Haunts You
One of the most common causes of jealousy is past experiences. If you have a rough past, have been cheated on in your prior relationship, have dealt with someone walking away or have experienced certain trauma, you are likely to be insecure about your present relationships too. You are afraid of going through that pain again. When this happens, you become exposed to jealousy and start doubting yourself or your relations because of it.
You Try to Control Things
Jealousy stems out when you feel like you “own” someone. Remember no one in this world owns anyone. We all are free. So, when you try to control your relationships, become bossy, or develop demanding kind of mindset you also become jealous. The point is jealousy can never be attractive. You may care for someone so much that you don’t want them to go away but jealously would ruin everything in the end. People will more likely to stay connected to you only if you provide them enough space to be who they are and deal with them in a nice way.You Want Perfection
We all know that nothing in this world is perfect. If you long for everything to be perfect, you will end up being alone. One of the obvious cause of jealousy is to demand perfection in every little action. When you start fantasizing about perfection, this is when your relations start suffering. Every relationship is different. If your friend has an ideal kind of relationship with your dad, it is not necessary that you should also have that particular kind of bond. It is quite natural to have jealousy is in small doses but when it starts crossing a certain threshold, things start getting worse for you and for your loved ones too.You Hide Something
Jealousy often occurs when you have something to hide. The feeling of guilt proves to be a major source of jealousy. When you hide something while connecting with some new person, you always have guilt in your heart that later changes into jealousy and ruin the relationship. You start doubting things and the chain continues until people stop paying attention to what you really want from them.
How to Overcome Jealousy
Understand the feelings of jealousy
Jealousy is a complex emotion that includes fear, anger, sorrow, humiliation, and betrayal. Learn to question the feeling of jealousy whenever it occurs.Get the root of jealousy
Analyze and conclude that why you are jealous of some particular thing. Look all the emotions inside you and think about their cause.Believe the people you love
Choose to trust the people you love. Never let distrust overpower your relationship. Do not blame people unnecessarily.Accept your mistakes
Whenever you know that you have made some mistake, just apologize for your behavior and explain why you said that particular thing. Try to keep things simple for your loved ones.

I am always jealous of my neighbors grasses, as it's always green. Come rain come shine, be it spring summer fall and winter. But of course it's made of synthetic plastic, fake grasses, but still am jealous 😁
Lovely article tho, but it won't cure my jealousy, who doesn't wanna see greens during winter 😁😁

hhhh thats funny, but anyway they are plastic. Your jealousy will be cured once you find something better than what they have lol
Actually it is not jealousy. You just love them and once you get something similar that you love to see in your house, you will start admiring it and forget about the world :)

Dear one you are comparing the incomparable. How can one compare fake flowers with fresh ones. After all we are real human and can never be jealous of a Robot because it will always remain machine. Yous neighbour's grass will always remain plastic and one would never get a live feeling walking on it. yours is a live one full of life. Enjoy yours and be proud that your neighbor do not have courage to handle the real one. He should be one to be jealous of you. So smileeeeeee and be happyyyyy

Excellent article, quite well put. It happens quite often in my experience, that jealous people are rarely willing to admit that their behaviour is negative and toxic, in fact, I've even seen people who pride in their jealousy and think it's somehow positive for a relationship to contain it.... I don't and probably never will understand this sort of thinking.
Back to the article though: LOVE IT! Do you think you could give me your permission to translate it and upload it on my blog? You'd receive your due credit of course. I just feel like it's a great opportunity for good content to reach other people!

Thanks for very good insight and advice. And yes, it's natural, even birds are jealous. In my early twenties I had a girlfriend that cheated on me. It was quite hard at the time, but it opened up a part of me that had not been available for my conscious self until that point of time. It has a lot to do with emotional investment, and often these goes into things aren't actually real – dreams and illusions. It's good to have a dream, but it need to be shared with the one you are with, so you both can commit yourselves to it. As an emotional energy driven being there will always be the chance of jealousy in my life, but it's really good to know how it works and where it comes from – fear of betrayal and fear of the unknown.

This article truly explains about jealousy. It led me to reminisce my past experience on it. I can not imagine how ruined I am because of that thing. In contrast, being jealous may imply also a person being afraid to lose you in any sense. However, dont let this thing eat you. It will surely ruin everything like what it did to me.
So glad to be able to read this. Thank you @jasimg.

Jealousy is a state of mind and has no physical existence. The feeling that other person has more then me, be what it may money, car, beauty, dress or looks or anything worth possessing is the root cause of jealousy.
The easiest way to vanish jealousy is acceptance. Accept what you have and what other have or possess. Once the acceptance arrive in our mind, jealousy evaporates.

Lovely article, and I completely share your views. I honestly find that jealousy is a horrible feeling and feeling jealous often is a terrible character trait. Everyone is responsible for their own life, and it is our very own journey to happiness that we need to pursue. This is what makes life so exciting, unique and interesting. So why should I envy somebody if they seem to do better at something? Maybe that person had a better start in that particular aspect of life but there is surely something where that person would envy me. So if I really want to compare myself to that somebody, I would have to compare the whole package. Point is, every life is unique and beautiful, so no need to be jealous :)

4 Ways to Stop Feeling Jealous of Other
First off, jealousy is a normal emotion. It can even be helpful, illuminating our own desires and insecurities. There’s no reason to beat yourself up because you find yourself turning a little green. You are not your feelings, and you get to choose how you react to them.
So often when we feel jealous, we are putting someone else on a pedestal. The most common reaction then, is to knock them down. We’ve all experienced these conversations, right? One woman makes a comment about another’s amazing body (or significant other, or life choices, etc.), and the others join in, ripping her apart.
Sometimes it’s more subtle. A backhanded compliment like, “I’d love to have legs like hers, but I’m not eating rabbit food and running all day long. I have a life.” Regardless of your intention, voicing these kinds of judgements about others serves no one, least of all you. Instead, take a pause and move to #3.
All we see in the world are reflections of our own perception. Jealousy is a powerful indicator of where we’d like to go. Where are your feelings coming from? If you find yourself envious of someone else’s job, for example, are you dissatisfied with your own? Do you secretly want to change professions? Is it really her schedule and freedom that’s appealing to you?
Instead of directing that energy outwardly, shine that light back unto yourself. Explore where your feeling is coming from. Not only is this less negative, it’s productive! It can help you explore what you want for yourself and drive you forward!
Yes! Clap your dang hands for what you see in the world that you’d like to have! Being supportive and caring toward other women serves all of us. This takes practice, but it’s so gratifying once you get in the habit.

Very great post. Learn to be contented with what you have. And always i mean always be happy at other people's achievement instead of getting jealous. And being jealous can lead to something dangerous, that the mind the devil will focus on. Rejoice so it can be reciprocated. One love
