Way back in 2012, when everybody was busy browsing through thousands of internet pages, a meme was born in the form of the Grumpy Cat. First posted on Reddit by Bryan Bundesen, the cat quickly gained prominence and became an important part of the history of internet culture. However, with a heavy heart I must inform everyone that, she has passed away.

In an emotional statement, Grumpy's family announced via the official Twitter account of Grumpy Cat that she was suffering from a recent urinary tract infection. And despite being treated by top professionals, she couldn't make it through.

'Grumpy Cat' or Tardar Sauce was one of a litter of four kittens born to a calico mother and a tabby putative father belonging to Tabatha Bundensen of Morristown, Arizona. Apparently, she appeared grumpy because she had a form of dwarfism. However, according to her owners, she only looked grumpy and acted like a regular cat, ninety-nine percent of the time.

Grumpy Cat was represented by 'Meme manager' Ben Lashes, Keyboard Cat and Nyan Cat. And in her seven years of existence, she had garnered 8.3 million followers on Facebook, 2.4 million followers on Instagram and 1.5 million followers on Twitter. She has been named 2012's most influential cat by MSNBC. She has been featured on the Wall Street Journal. And she was won a plethora of 'meme of the year' awards.

Her appearances weren't restricted to the cyberspace. She showed up on NBC News' Today show, ABC News' Good Morning America, CBS Evening News, Anderson Live, VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live, E! Network's The Soup, FOX's American Idol. She also had t-shirts, mugs, stuffed toys and books in her name.

Now, I am aware of the fact that Grumpy Cat must've been a lot of people's favorite meme and this news must be devastating. So, join me in honoring her memory by going through some of her best memes.
