New Year, New Me? #Road235 Update

in life •  6 years ago

Today marks the first day of a new year. No, not the lunar year, but Chinese New Year, the Year of the Pig.

The Pig is the last of the 12 year cycle of animald appearing in the Chinese zodiac used for the Chinese calendar.

Often we try to connect the new year to a fresh start. For me it is another reflection almost 2 months after starting the #Road235.

For those of you who've missed the premise of the #Road235 as short video.

A couple of things I learned so far:

  • Planning for gold is useless. If you want, you can plan the rest of the year or your life, without achieving anything ever. The execution towards your goals is way more important. For some planning provides a base and stable structure to work towards goals. For others, it is a big time sink. Get the big picture and move.
  • Balance is key. Too much of one thing is dangerous, too little can hurt as well. Often when we commit, we overcommit and forget other things that contribute to our success.
  • Bad health sometimes leads to slow and painful death. This is true for both mental and physical health. For me, getting in bed before midnight remains a struggle, but when I don't, it really drains my energy during the day. Same goes for a shortage of fruits and vegetables. Sometimes it does help that I stay mentally afloat, but I prefer having my body in a better shape and not feel like dead weight.
  • Procrastination is real. Very real. I think it might me my biggest enemy. Not procrastination itself, but me procrastinating. It really doesn't matter what the form of procrastination is, but what it is keeping me from doing.
  • It all depends on how bad you want it. We often want change, but don't really want to change. Sometimes it is about being comfortable in the current position, sometime it's not being uncomfortable enough. Sometimes it is that the initial effort does not reap the projected rewards. Sometimes it is just being lazy, untriggered, lethargic. Which means you should ask yourself. Is it really what I want?

For me it has come to the point that the 2019 goals might not be challenging enough. Or the incentive has just lost value. So I'll be aiming towards my 2025 goals. The big picture, because that is what excites me. Not the milestones on the path that lead to them. I don't want a great year. I just want to be the best version of myself, every day.

I just read your goodbye post and then, watched your road 235 video. It sounds ambitious to do something different on each social media platform! I always think about using as much of the same material as possible since each platform has a different following.

Wishing you that you reach all your goals and that you sleep enough - super important!!! For your health later in life. Yup. And eat those veggies 😄

Yes. It is a little ambitious. I do use similar content for LinkedIn and Facebook, but the tone of voice is just little different. For Youtube I decided to go a totally different route (more creative than business. And Instagram.. postponing that as much as possible 😅.

I like Steemit alot because I feel I can kinda be myself and have to be less filtered.

Thanks for the advice and yes, fruit and vegetables 👍
Also really appreciate it that you took your time to read through and watch my content. #Grantangi 👐

You have set the goal, enjoy your journey, don't be too hard on yourself
And that's a good poem :D

Thanks!
Yes I know. I wont be too hard. On the other hand I sometimes have to. Procrastination calls me everytime I don't 😂.

Oh I know that Procrastination only too well
I didn't realise he was like Santa, visiting all around the world ;p

Oh yes, PC is worse. Visits aren't limited to the holidays. And it can visit for days 😂

Being the best version of yourself is a good goal to have, that was a realization I came to around when I turned 40 and also a key as you say is Balance is key, those to thoughts in mind will be very important to setting your goals and staying motivated to achieve them

Good luck on your journey to 2025 and meeting your goals, dang thinking of 2025 is a scary thought i just realised how old I will be then LOL

Yup. Balance keeps getting me every time. Acceptance is one, but acting on it is the second and more difficult part. Thanks for the wishes 💪. And yes, it is scary to think about 2025 😂.

Not to scary for you , you will still be under 40, 2025 I hit 65 :)
For me balance was hard till I hit the mid to late 40s when I seemed to get a grip of managing things better and getting some balance, when your younger you just want to go go go or at least I did

I'll be 40+, but yes, 65 is something different indeed. Good to know that finding balance comes with age (or experience). And yes.. it has been go go go.. but recently with 2 young kids I'm starting to see that energy isn't endless anymore. Thanks for the wise words 💪.

As for young kids thats when I discovered there energy seemed endless and mine seemed In a limited supply lOL
