THE INFLUENCE OF HUMAN NATURE IN CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

People have debated that the human environment affects the criminal behavior of a person. There are many factors to consider while analyzing how the environment shapes people to become criminals. Starting with the family, it shapes how people develop and how they relate to each other people. Most criminals come from broken homes. Some children go through abuse, and they have so much hostility to the world and they end up becoming criminals. The family environment affects how a child grows and it affects their hyperactivity. There are many family risk factors associated with criminology. These are parenting, poverty, family structure and parenting (Wilson & Herrnstein, 1985). The human nature affects crimes in terms of the family setup, parenting, socialization and education.

Parenting

In terms of parenting, when a child grows up in a family that has good parents, the child will have good behavior. Parenting is very important in the upbringing of children. Parents teach children on the good and bad things. They punish them when they go wrong and build their character. If a parent has bad morals and he/she is absent most or all of the time. This translates to the child’s behavior.

For children to grow in the right way, there should be a parent-child relationship that is positive as well as a home environment that is positive and stimulating. Some parents exert abuse to the children. The abuse could be physical, sexual or verbal. This scares the child and it causes the child to develop antisocial behavior. The child may engage in crime in his/her teenage years or when he/she grows up. The family setup should be in such a way that people are free to communicate or air their views (Jones, 2018). The child will feel included in such an environment. Lack of family bonds is a cause of criminal behavior.

Socialization

Another environmental issue that affects criminology is socialization. This is an important factor in the development of a child. Socialization is the way a child learns to act or relate to others based on how parents or guardians teach him/her to act. Socialization happens in the period between when the child is developing and when he/she learns about the society. When the children are growing up, they learn to obey their guardian and their family is their society. When children are developing, they do not know that simple things like stealing are wrong.

The guardians have to teach them by showing that there are negative consequences of crime. If the parents skip this part, children may become criminals. They start with simple crimes like stealing, cheating and fighting. As they grow older, they graduate to more serious forms of crime.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there are many human factors that affect criminology. The level of education affects how people manifest their criminal behavior. People who have learning disabilities have a likelihood of getting into crime. The neighborhood also affects how children relate with each other. Children who grow in crime related towns are more likely to become criminals. These children grow up and relate with people in the neighborhood. There is a possibility that they will associate or involve with these people. The human nature affects crimes in a number of ways. These are family setup, parenting, socialization and education.

I found this interesting. It got me wondering...
How do we teach our children to survive in a world that is run by the biggest criminals of all? They (bigbadguys) preach down to us that we should/shouldn't do this or that, yet, behind our backs, do the very thing they tell us is wrong or bad.

Thanks for the food for thought
cheers

This makes me think of the outliers. The ones from good families, good environment yet they still commit crimes. Others too from the other extreme that are very good. What do you make of that ?i

There are many issues that influence criminal behaviour (or make people criminals) and human nature is one of them.

Meaning that other factors can make people become criminals. eg. mental factors, tendencies etc.

The environment that surrounds in most cases define you. Great read

I agree 100%.

Great write-up, Parenting and socialization really affect the behaviour of a child. This is one reason why most people brought up in the gheto areas are prone to commit crimes. Thanks for your article.

That is true. Thanks for reading.

Good writeup. This was me. I had a mixture of terrible and great parenting mixed in with horrible friend circles. I turned out ok in the end, but only with amazing interventions.

Glad to hear. I also think that self-awareness can change this for those people. I love your blog btw.

Thank you :) - I shall check out more of you.

I can't help but wonder if criminal behavior doesn't also stem in pent-up anger and resentment, towards all because of the inability to escape your circumstances

Sometimes it's more of an escape but we can't excuse it.

The question of moral authority arises, I bet we can only purpose to be better versions of ourselves.

That is true.

The human nature truly affect crimes in ways, many people have ended up with bad behaviours or as criminals not because they were born that way but often times the kind of people they associated with... everything you have shared is true thanks..@jeanwandimi

That is true. Thanks for stopping by.

You are your own creation despite the environment

True.
