When I was young TVs were a lot different.

The TV itself was a giant wooden box.

It had a dial on it to change channels.

There had been a remote once upon a time but everybody always lost the remote to the TV.

It looked like this.

Now you had to stand up, go over to the TV, put your hand on the dial , and click it over and over.

There were about four channels of which only a couple came in without an incredible amount of static on them.

Those channels are were 4,5,8, and 21. Some people got 33 as well and a few people even got 39. There was also a Spanish Channel somewhere in the mix.

Since TVs back then were not in HD you were lucky if two of these stations were watchable.

It's amazing to think that we used to watch the TV like this back then considering what it's like today.

The sound was incredibly muted and you could barely make out what people were saying.

These TVs were not even in stereo.

You also had to constantly get up and mess with the antenna.

Some people even put foil around their antenna in order to increase their reception.

TVs were nothing like they are today.

It's amazing the variety the people have today and they just take it for granted.

When I was young TVs were a lot different.

Yeah remember being a kid and having to do the dirty work of changing the channel! Someone had to get up and turn that knob!! Lol do kids even know what knobs are these days?!

It's funny what people train their kids to do. My friend has a kid that will get up and get you a Dr. Pepper if you ask her to.

Good post..reminds me that this world really evolved, not only did the earth evolve, but technology also ... grew more sophisticated

The dials on one of my parents' old TVs came off, so if we wanted to change the TV's channel, we had to use a pair of pliers. We usually used the VCR to change channels instead.

I had a TV like that too. Actually the knob came off and you had to carry the knob around with you and slip it back on to change channels because it would always fall back off.

This is really amazing. Times have changed so we change with it. Nice post there

They definitely have.

hahhaha @jeezle these types of TVs were in my chilhood .No antenna nothing and we have only 2 stations and you know when it was not working we used to give TV a slap and it started working :) Thanks for recalling my childhood memories :)

Yep you'd give it a slap or a kick and then you would mess with the antenna like you were wrestling with some sloppy alien creature.

hhahah yes :)

I remember a tv we had with a channel switcher that was like a toilet flush handle. You just sort of flushed one channel to the next.

And I remember the fuzzy little black and white box on which the family sat around and watched the Beatles on Ed Sulivan. During that historic broadcast my father mumbled about them not being as good as Slim Whitman and mom wondered aloud how their mothers let them out of the house with that hair.

Different world.

Definitely different. Just imagine what the world's going to be like 50 years from now when people are wearing little threads of string and nothing else.
