You're not like them. You've thought it before, and it was probably true.
All the groups that you were supposed to belong to, the definitions that society hoisted on you without your permission from the time you were born, they fit on you like a coat that's just a little too lose or a little too tight or simply not your style.
For some of us this is more true than for others.
In many ways I look at myself and realize just how fortunate I am. I have friends and family. But I often feel different from them in ways that aren't just not minor, but are of transcendental importance. Maybe everyone feels this way, sometimes. But I've felt it to some extent since I was little.
For many of you it'll be the same. There are moments of joy, or true connection. Then there are other times when you think:
I am the only one.
Not the only one, globally. That must be said. But certainly the only one locally. And until that day when technology does not connect us with bare threads meekly and merely, when the wires and cords evaporate into an effervescent and transcendent connection, locally is all that matters.
That feeling is a strength born out of pain. It pulls us towards this platform more strongly than and irrevocably than some of our own personal relationships do.
That’s sad, sure, but it’s also cause for hope.
Because yes it’s the platform and the money, but more it’s what Steemit represents because of those things. It’s a new paradigm, a different way of looking at things. And lest this quickly degrade into another 'Steemit is so great!' post (it is, but it feels like there's already a lot of that on the site) I want to reiterate that it's not really about Steemit. This is something bigger than Steemit. A movement, if you will.
It's a movement that has allowed the sparse and separated followers of a barely defined but world altering philosophy to connect and share, to help each other. To tell them that all-important thing that everyone needs to hear: you are not the only one.
So the next time you feel yourself staggering or on the floor, hang in there. It's not over yet, kid. Stay in the ring. Keep fighting. We're all here, cheering you on.
