Effects of Horror Movies on Us

Horror movies frequently depict ghosts, demons, possession, murder, violence, rape and other terrifying acts. These acts can get imbibed in the subconscious mind of the viewer. Such thoughts can only have negative impacts on a person's mental health.

FEAR
This is an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain or harm. Increased fear can make a person more liable to depression and develop more serious disorders like paranoia.

SLEEPLESSNESS
People may have trouble sleeping due to the fear and anxiety from watching such movie. When I was 10, I watched the film "Serial Mom" . It might not seem scary to you but it kept me up at night.

AGGRESSION
Frequent watching of these movies can lead to the rise of aggression. People will not only be aggressive to others but it will become harder to control their feelings. It can also lead to the increase of violence in the society.

EFFECTS ON ACTORS
Acting in a movie can be a tough job especially if the script and subject matter is really intense. These actors don't always leave the movie the same way they went in. Sometimes, they are never the same.

Janet Leigh in Psycho (1960)

She was never quite the same after starring as Marion Crane. Traumatized after watching herself in the famous shower scene, Leigh became too afraid to take showers and from that point forward, she only took baths.

Jennifer Carpenter in The Exorcism of Emily Rose(2005)

While she was filming the religious thriller, some strange things were happening to her after hours, like her radio randomly turning on in the middle of the night. "Two or three times when i was going to sleep my radio came on by itself," she said. "The only time it scared me was once because it was really loud, and it was Pearl Jam's Alive"
