It all started May 2nd 2017.
I had just found out about Gab.ai (which basically is twitter without the censorship of twitter) and I was just browsing. Suddenly I saw a post about Steemit and the fact that it was a social media platform where people got paid to post intrigued me. So I had to check it out.
That's when a certain post on the homepage caught my eye. It was called "Cryptocurrency - Where does the money come from? For newbies like me - Part 2"
I had heard about Bitcoin before, but like many I thought "weird internet money" and didn't research it. I remember how in 2013 a friend told me about the enormous spike and how a friend of him had made big money. I remember looking at the chart and seeing the crash that had happened. I was like "nah, not gonna get into that shit".
So I ignored it.
In November 2016 I started learning about trading, but that was Forex. I read books, watched hours and hours of content on Youtube & once in a while I saw something about Bitcoin. So once again I checked it out, but saw that 1 BTC was expensiveeee... I was like "I ain't paying €630 for 1 coin" and I ignored it again.
Then finally on May 2nd I read that post on Steemit and I was hooked. I read and read and read and at the end of the night my mind was blown. This isn't just internet money, this is a superior form of money. Not only that, but the blockhain technology can be used for so many things. Censorship isn't possible when nobody controls the flow of information. MIND WAS BLOWN AGAIN.
Then I spent 2 months studying and trading. In september university started and I got really busy. I totally forgot about crypto and didn't spend any time on it. It was only in January that I got into it again so I missed the entire bullrun. I've been busy with crypto for the last 4 months and I'm loving it.
Of course we're in a bearmarket, but that's not a bad thing. As you can see in my post A Longer Term Look at BTC
I will be trading it up and down. It only sucks to be a HODL'er right now.
I will be sharing my opinions and progress here on Steemit.
I don't think Steemit will be around forever since I believe that a better version of Steemit will be build on EOS within the coming years, but for now this is my favorite platform and I look forward to seeing it grow.
Until next time,
Joel
