Why is it a common belief amongst men and women that men can't be faithful?

Nice question bro. Very nice. And nice surname too. Looks familiar. I wonder where I've seen it before... That's besides the point though. Let's get to it

It's all about expectations. Nobody is going to come out and praise their man when he's doing the right thing in a relationship. This is because while it's the right thing, it's also what he's supposed to be doing. So you can't promise someone for doing his job, if I may put it that way. But we tend to complain when someone begins to do what he's not supposed to. So a faithful man won't make the news but an unfaithful man will.

Taking this into consideration we can see why the "men are scum" mantra was so rampant.

I say so because it's hard to not generalized when we're wronged. So when a man cheats on his wife, girlfriend, etc, she doesn't say he's trash. She believes that all men are like that because she hasn't seen or heard anyone say otherwise.

So she generalizes and all other women who've had bad experiences hear and relate and no one comes up to defend men. Not even men. So the belief spreads and spreads and here we are today.
