CNN Hero Helps Her Fellow Amputees Believe Again

in life •  7 years ago

Mona Patel lost part of her leg due to a drunk driver over 30 years ago, and now she's helping many like herself cope with life and finding hope within themselves.

"I flew up about 12 feet," Patel said. "And then he pinned me between his car and a metal railing, and that's what smashed my leg and my foot."

After searching for support groups she decided to start her own nonprofit organization, the San Antonio Amputee Foundation. The San Antonio Amputee foundation offers peer support, education and recreation opportunities, as well as financial assistance for basic home and car modifications and prosthetic limbs.

I posted two links below. One of her history and one of her great work and where she plans to go next.

Inspiring story @joseph!

good picture my friend loved it

It's amazing how someone can go through the worst circumstances and what they gain from it, is a love for helping other people.

Wow! That's nice.

Dear joseph, the Lord has been so faithful to you and your entire family. It is by grace that God made you alive to share this living testimony to everyone on this channel.

I believe you have a grateful heart and this is why you made recon to your incident 30 years back. More so, your nonprofit organization, the San Antonio Amputee Foundation is a blessing to helpless lives and great endowment to humanity service.

I love to see great souls as yours with great determination, visions and focus without looking down to themselves on been discouraged with challenges.

My grandfather lost one of his legs when he was about 13 and still ended up driving cars and riding horses like normal. Although he died before I was born, I think of him with one leg sometimes and it helps me with my struggles, which aren't that bad in comparison. I'm proud to say that as a baby I looked just like him.
