Without defining the purpose for the second half of our lives, we tend to float and take life as it comes. This aimless wandering drains us mentally, emotionally and physically. One hypothesis I have is that as we age and lose focus on a purpose in life the first thing we let go is our health, we can’t muster up the drive to exercise. Then slowly, our minds start to go, we lose focus, memory retention and alertness, we’re spending hours watching TV and surfing news sites disengaged from thinking.
We dream of life a different way, where we’re going to live, the work we’ll do, the leisure activities we’ll take. Somewhere out there someday in the future we’ll do something different that really fires us up.
But for now, we’ll wait and slog through life bored, tired, exhausted and just plain worn out from the day to day energy drain.
Why Are You Giving Yourself Permission To Wait To Live Your Life?
The slipperiest slope we have in our lives is delaying our lives, we always seem to need one more piece of the puzzle, one more magic key to unlock everything.
What if I told you that you have everything you need within you right now to go out and live the life of your dreams, you just didn’t realize it (or know you possessed it?)
It’s your internal compass, just like a regular compass when you understand how to use it, it will lead you to your end destination.
How To Start Using Your Internal Compass
Our internal compass acts like a series of magnets, we’re drawn to what brings us alive and fuels us up, but we’re repelled by things that drain our energy, or drive and our focus.
The key to uncovering how to use your purpose is through the power of journal your thoughts, feelings and reactions to events and actions in your life.
Keep a log of your dreams, what did you read, see or hear about that you want to explore further, jot it down.
Keep a log of what you don’t like doing in your life right now, the type of work you do, the place(s) you lived or currently live, etc.
Building the contrasting lists is super beneficial to helping you uncover your purpose in life. Using the journal, you’re consciously choosing to program your mind to move in a direction that fulfills you and ignites a spark within.
When we’re aligned with the work we’re meant to do, the place we want to live and surrounded by the people and environment that fuel and fire us up will allow us to contribute to the world around us enormously.
How are you limiting your purpose? Who or what are you surrounding yourself with that doesn’t move you forward?
To find your purpose you have to stat using your internal compass that will direct you in the direction you want to move and away from what’s holding you back from truly living your purpose and excelling in the second half of your life.
If you’re not using a journal and capturing thoughts and Ideas, I urge you to start doing that today, right now. You can pick up a simple notebook anywhere for a buck or two. Or go digital right on your phone / computer, either way find a method that works best for you.
Really start to dig in and find what you’re moving towards, if we leave it up to our subconscious minds we’ll stay exactly where we’re at.
Are you ready to live the same year over and over again for the next 40 years or do you want something different from your life?
