"Life is per head" I have heard that phrase before but truly didn't comprehend its meaning until this morning. I took a taxi to work this morning, hoping the driver would drop me off at the side where I had my office building so I wouldn't need to cross the road. Getting closer I told the driver where I would alight and he said he was making a turn just adjacent to the side I had my office building. That wouldn't have been a problem except for the fact that I had to cross over a major road which was very busy. I alighted just before he made the turn, and braced up for the task ahead which was finding a way to cross the road.
I stood there for some minutes, the traffic of cars coming at such great a speed, I couldn't take the risk. I had to wait to see if the number would reduce, calculate my speed and distance from the oncoming vehicles. The person beside me had crossed while I was still doing my maths. I watched him walk down to the office building while making this decision was still difficult for me. Two others came, met me, manoeuvred their way and crossed. The more people left me there and walked through the path way into the office building, the more my courage failed me to attempt crossing. The number of cars per time kept multiplying. Every chance I got to run across, I lost looking at those who had met and left me there and the speed of the numerous vehicles on the highway. I was running late for work but still nobody slowed down to make passage across easy.
A Lady alighted from a car and joined me there. We were both headed for same direction. I could tell she was feeling the way I felt haven spent some minutes and couldn't summon courage to run across too. I didn't want to increase her fears by showing her mine. I had to focus and few minutes later, I was able to cross the road. And guess what, I left the lady there. Did I win? Yes. Did she lose? No. No because this race is very personal. We were headed same direction quite all right but then, each of us had to cross at different times individually. No holding of hands across. What mattered is that we eventually made it across.
How many times have you looked at another and thought that you were failing cos they were making progress? How many times have you mirrored your life with another person's glasses and tried to appear as they looked? Life is personal. I can't stress it enough. We all went to the universities, attended classes with certain people who were our friends and colleagues but after graduation, our certificates carried our individual names letting us know that in the end, what matters is how much focus, effort and hard work you put into your life personally that counts. Every time you get distracted from yourself and goals, you waste the time you would have put into making progress. Life is personal and totally what you make out if it. Quit pushing blames, quit expecting people to wait for you. Go ahead and get it if you want it badly enough.
