Monsters in McDonald's Happy Meals?!

in life •  8 years ago

Perhaps to a 1 year old...

Today, my daughter got her very first McDonald's Happy Meal, but it didn't quite go as planned...

As the family and I made a quick stop at McDonald's for lunch, we thought it would be nice to get our 1 year old (19 months technically) her very own Happy Meal. This would be her first one ever.

Sounds like a nice thought, right?

The Happy Meal contained:

4 chicken nuggets - Which is about the same amount she normally eats at home. Plus she loves them. Check.

Apples - Check. She loves those too.

Chocolate Milk - We weren't quite sure on this one at first but figured today would be a special day for her. Check

French Fries - Check. She absolutely loves those.

and a Toy.

This is where the problems begin...

We thought the little toy would be a big selling point for her as she just loves any kind of little toys she can get her hands on. This one would be geared for girls, so even better! Or so we thought...

We decided we would save the toy for last to guarantee that she ate all of her food first before she got too distracted from playing with it to eat.

Everything went according to plan. She ate all of her food, leaving nothing behind.

Now it would be time to introduce what we thought would be the best part.

The toy!

What first started like this...

Soon went to this...

Then went to this...

Which ultimately went to this...

(It's kinda hard to tell in that picture but she soon started crying)

Before we knew it, she was crying every time she saw that little toy. I am not sure if it reminds her of something or what, but what was supposed to be a fun thing for her turned into her fearing for her life whenever that little toy makes an appearance.

It was definitely the opposite reaction of what we had been expecting!

Mom wants to throw the toy away but dad (me) was thinking that maybe we should keep that little toy around for anytime she does something bad. We can just whip that little toy out and put her in her place! :)

I am just kidding... mostly.

Any parents out there, ever have any similar reactions to receiving a toy at McDonald's?

Let me know in the comments section below.

Thanks for a very interesting article @jcornel!

I work with children all day long and have done so for over 21 years now. this post made me wonder about the reasons behind her change of mood, whether or not it had anything to do with the toy or partially so, whether mom's "sounds" and faces, if not dad, had anything to do with the mood or maybe even the television voices going in the background, maybe her happy meal didn't do through happily??? So many unanswered questions... I look forward to read about the answer to this enigma, if one ever surfaces.

Thanks for sharing and namaste :)

Yea I am not sure, we would hide the toy (doll) and then show it to her and she would cover her face and cry like she was afraid of the doll for some reason. It was kind of strange...

Firstly, nice family you got there. 2nd, my s0n happened to like all of his toys from McDonalds and elsewhere ;)
The reason she may have been crying may be due to her having some type of insight on how far they plan on taking the Barbie toys in the near future(Naked dolls). lol

Haha that could be it! I was shocked she was scared of a barbie...

yeah you know how kids these days are all in to that scary stuff so, the opposite of "ugly" is the new scary stuff ;) They be scared of barbies but they not scared of chucky dolls and such SMH
Honestly it's probably because she was wondering why 0r how a person can be so small lol

That might be it! She thought it was real, but it was so small it was weird.. and weird = scary. I think you might be on to something! :)

Maybe she didn't cry because of the toy but because of the terrible food you fed her.. Are y'all serious?? You fed a one year old McDonald's and you're proud of that?? I'm sorry but most adults don't feel great after eating fast food, and if this was one of her first times trying it out, she could have just felt really bad because of a reaction to the food. And now when she see's that toy she's wondering if that bad feeling is going to come back... Please, I can't tell you how to parent your kid but you are asking for some advice, and mine would be to not let her eat that crap there is nothing good or beneficial for her in it. If anything you could be well on your way to giving her some sever problems later. I've never seen a kid eat any kind of fast food or junk food and behave well or not get sick afterwards.. This food can cause all kinds of problems from ADHD, Depression, Diabetes and the worst Cancer. If you love her with all your heart you'd keep this kind of food out of her life so you don't have to risk these sever problems later.

The word you're thinking of is severe.
Not sever.

Well she is closer to 2 (19 months) as you read in the post, and the food she ate was chicken nuggets, apples, and a couple french fries. Hardly a big mac or triple cheese burger... not to mention this was her first time trying it. But your points are noted. Thanks for the input.

I think you just have to be realistic about it. I grew up eating McDonald's and I turned out just fine. Check out my realistic food review here: https://steemit.com/food/@stonedfood/stoned-food-review-mcdix

That's an interesting reaction to a Happy Meal toy, first time I've heard of a negative response. I've always ever heard of kids really enjoying the toy and forgetting to eat, because they just wanted to play.

Exactly! That is what we were thinking as well and why we were so surprised...

There's always next time :) Kids seem to forget a lot of things they like or don't like, so maybe next visit will be the reaction you thought you'd get this first time.

That is kind of what I am thinking...

i love family..
good job @jrcornel
great post

Thank you!

you're welcome ^_^

first, beautiful family :-)
and second...Maybe she was upset that this doll represented what the world thinks a woman should look like!
I"m kidding, but it is a curious reaction. Kids can be unpredictable...enjoy the ride!

Haha could be! Thank you, I am so far :)

Once upon a time I had a whole container of MacDonalds toys. They only handed out parts of toys then you had to build the toy over 4 weeks. If you missed one then you only had half a toy. Later when I had two kids I had many "half" toys...lol! Perhaps she just doesn't like it at all! I agree with your wife...chuckit! 😂

Lol that is funny... And yes maybe I am a bit cruel wanting to keep it around. :)

Maybe the doll is freaky...

I think that is what it is... I think she thinks it is a real miniature person...

It's a sign...no more junk food from Mc Donald's for her...

Haha could be...

Such a cute little one you've got there @jrcornel and one pretty hilarious story! Who thought barbies were terrifying?! Hope she overcomes her fear one day haha until then, why not use it to your advantage??

...KIDDING GUYS :)

Haha that is exactly what I was thinking! :) So far I haven't been cruel enough to do it, but if she gets too out of control I may just have to bring the doll out... muahahaha!

She's very cute...and discerning. Winning combo there. Keep her out of MacDonald's though. Chemical shitstorm...!

I wouldn't go that far, but do agree that it isn't very healthy.

We haven't had that response from a McD's toy, but our 9-month old cries at stuffed teddy bears. Something about them scares him!

That is a bit unusual. Barbies and Teddy bears... the new scare toys of this generation! :)
