I have an issue with my iPhone.
I'm spending wasting too much time on it, so I found a few ways to have a better relation with him:
Turn off almost all notifications
Notifications appear in red dots because red is a trigger color that instantly draws our attention. But most notifications are generated by machines, not actual people. They keep our phones vibrating to lure us back into apps we don't really need to be in.
Visit Settings > Notifications and turn off all notifications, banners, and badges, except from apps where real people want your attention; for me it's message, calls, messenger, whatsapp.
Delete social media apps
This one is tough, but effective! If you really want to use your phone less, remove all the major social media apps from your phone. It’s the easiest way to cut back, as these apps can easily gobble up so much of our time. Train yourself to use them from your computer only, or go one step further and delete your accounts. I've done it on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
By the way, try deleting your news apps. Your mental health will thank you.
Keep your home screen useful
Limit your first page of apps to just tools–the apps you use for quick in-and-out tasks like Maps, Camera, Calendar, Notes and inspiring apps like habit tracker, meditation, music. That's it.
Move the rest of your apps, especially mindless choices, off the first page and into one folder.
My home screen
Launch apps by typing
Swipe down and type the app you want to open instead of leaving bad habits on the home screen. Typing takes just enough effort to make us pause and ask, “do I really want to do this?” (most of the time you don't)
No phone in the bedroom
Keep your phone outside your bedroom. You'll sleep better I guarantee you.
Keep track of your usage
Install an app like Moment and keep track of your usage (time spent on your phone, number of pickups). It's a bit scary at first, but you'll see improvement with all these tips.
Before / after kind of screenshot :
Do not disturb
Try to use the Do not disturb feature most of the time, you can add family as VIP so you can still get their calls.
Leave your phone out of reach
Do you check your phone during breakfast, dinner, a tv show ? Me too.
That's why I now leave my phone out of reach when I'm eating or watching television. And it works like a charm, because you'll be too lazy to get off that couch to just check social media.
With all these tips, I manage to cut down by half my usage on my phone and have now more control.
So what's your tips to limit your time on your phone?
