Why you smell like a goat

Bacteria give your sweat a scent of goat, onion or cumin.

There are bacteria in the armpits that make your sweat smell. Researchers have identified three sweat debris and how your sweat smells depends on which bacteria dominate under your arms.

Your sweat really has no smell in itself. The odor occurs when bacteria on the skin break down nutrients in the sweat and form waste materials.

Of the bacteria that thrive in the armpit, there are mainly three types that cause the sweat to smell: Corynebacteria emit an odor reminiscent of the smell of goat, staphylococcus smells onion and anaerobic bacteria smell cumin.

If the three types of bacteria form a large part of the bacteria in your armpit, you have a significant sweat odor. If you're lucky they make up a smaller part, so your sweat has a more neutral smell.
