Dwarf Puffer Update

in life •  8 years ago  (edited)

Hello everyone! Today I would like to keep you updated on my two dwarf puffers. They are doing quite well and have just recently purchased a new food for them to eat. The new food is a success! This is great news since I do not have to worry about feeding them snails everyday, however, this would be their main source of nutrients in the wild so I will continue to feed them a healthy amount.
I was able to shoot a video of them during feeding time and am excited to present this to you below.

Other than this, I have also made some small purchases to help improve the plant quality in my tank. I purchased Flourish by Seachem which is beneficial for plant growth and health.

I have heard great reviews about Seachem products so this is promising. Additionally, I believe it will help me with growing tissue cultures plants as the species I picked up below.

Tissue culture is great because it allows you to grow a type of plant without any exposure to pest snails or other bacteria that might harm your fish. I also believe this tissue culture can grow fairly rapidly and so if I wanted a bedding of this type of grass on my substrate then with proper care it can happen. The pack was pretty pricey costing about eight dollars, however, I think it will pay for itself in a few weeks. The tissue culture comes attached to a gel which can just be washed off and is then ready for your tank.

I'm excited to use this tissue culture because the species comes from India which is where my dwarf puffers also come from. I hope this creates an even better environment for the fish. Although I have a sand substrate, the idea of a bed of grass covering my entire tank is interesting to me. I hope to keep you updated on this new tissue culture find and to post about it possibly in the next article.
Unfortunately after using the root tabs (mentioned in the previous post) to help with plant growth, they caused my substrate to turn an orange color.

I hope this is temporary as I do not want to stare at out of place orange patches on the white sand. This did not change the water quality so as long as the water continues to be safe for the fish then this is not a major problem. Only an aesthetic one.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this little update on my puffers and the video to accompany it (which took me forever to create but worth it). If you want to check out my last post you can find it here (https://steemit.com/life/@kajalpats/green-and-gold-severum).
Please leave a question of comment below and let me know what you think of these little puffers! Thank you again for reading and please continue to follow my aquarium journey!

Good job.

I hope those orange patches disappear too.

Your tank is so beautiful!

Thank you so much! I just purchased a liquid fertilizer for the plants so I may discontinue using root tabs. The update is the orange has slowly disappeared! Thank you for checking in on this @papa-pepper

Cool, good to hear!

wonderful!

I really like you use vitroplants (tissue culture). I'd worked in this area, but no with aquatic plants...it's so interesting. I would like to help you with any question about the care.

I love the puffers! Follow me for my figure 8 puffer!
