Meditation where you focus on your breathing, not to focus on what thoughts enter your mind, let your thoughts flow and leave bringing you in to the moment, being mindful of what your doing, relaxing your body giving you some well earned me time.
I was advised to use Mindfulness Meditation by my Rheumatologist to help me with my Chronic pain & Fibromylagia, I have been doing this for around a year but still haven't managed to help with my pain, What it has done is help me relax and sort out my thoughts, I get me time and when I am feeling overloaded it seems to help lift the heavy weight. I also suffer with depression, if I can catch myself before I go to low I can meditate which helps me sort my thoughts out, being in the moment and able to deal with a few of my problems. The more you do this the more is will benefit you, I try and do it at least once a day.
When and if you try this you will find what works for you, I like to make sure the house is empty, my dogs walked and settled, doors locked and house checked that everything is off so I don't have to think about anything else other than my breathing. I prefer to lie on my bed with the curtains closed, I am propped up with 4 pillows, lying on my back I lie back get into a comfortable position, making sure my knee is supported as without the support the pain gets worse. Some people like to sit up in a chair, it your meditation so you decided what works for you.
Once I am comfortable phone turned off, you don't want to be disturbed you can close your eyes are keep them open, listen to your breathing counting in 1, 2, 3, out 1, 2, 3 that's all you need to do, let your body relax with every breath. It does take a while to stop focusing on each thought, washing up needs doing, what should we have for tea etc Let them thoughts come in to your mind then let them leave, your body will relax as will your mind. This gives your mins a break from all the work it does. I do my session for around 20 minutes. depending if i fall asleep that's the reason I check the house for my own safety
Once your session is over you will feel relaxed and in the moment, just you and your surroundings, nothing else to think about. Being mindful, knowing what to do next.
After my me time I feel better, relaxed and in tune with what's around me, I feel rested in my body and mind. My next goal is to try and see if I can do it whilst I am in pain. That will be harder as I feel pain most of the time but usually do my session once my medication is working, doing it when I am suffering with pain means I have to be ready to do the mediation anywhere, sitting and lying down.

I am glad you are finding some time to meditate and relax. There have been times in my life when meditation has been very beneficial to me as well. I agree we all have to find what works for us. I think the hardest thing to do is get everything ready so you don't have to worry about anything, but I think it is important and worth the effort.

My mom took me up to a Transcendental #Meditation session, when I was just the tender age of 17 ! It made an impression, and I've continued thru the years.
I am trying to TELL Newcomers to meditation that they SHD at Least try it once or twice !
The #Health benefits are "cumulative" over time -- so RELAX, don't fight it.
I think You'll enjoy it, and FEEL more in the moment.
IDEA: IF you think your family may interrupt (or be tempted to) - you could set out a TIMER, so that the young ones (if you have kids) will KNOW when you'll be available to them

Yes great post! Meditation is all about training to not have thoughts! This opens up for new ideas and the best answers to come right to you "magically". Then you can focus on what you really want to completely. That is how you excel!

Thank you for such an open and honest account of what you are going through Karen and how meditation alleviates some of the symptoms as you live day by day. I love to meditate and I too have suffered with depression and through meditation and other helpful practices, I keep the demons at bay and try to live a positive and fulfilled life, but it's a daily battle, as we live in a strange world. Have you ever considered using medical marijuana for your pain, just a thought, but it might not be your cup-of-tea my lovely? Thanks again for sharing. ;-)

God bless you Karen, but that might change soon for the use of cannabis for medicinal reasons, I hope! It needs to be legalised asap. Keep an eye open for changes in the law regarding cannabis use. ;-)

Mindfulness meditation is great tool you can use to help clear your mind from the myriad sea of thoughts that randomly pop in and out of existence in your head which prevent you from seeing the world for what it really is. Just started taking it seriously and played around with it recently and wow, it truly is such an amazing feeling when you transition in and out of that meditative state. Coming out of it, you become more fully aware of your surroundings. You're no longer lost in thought (at least for a while, depending on how effective your meditation is) and you become more focused with whatever you're doing. There's just this burst of excitement after you come out of it and you're just fascinated by everything around you. It's like you've been born back into this world again.
