How Video games BOOST Productivity!

Use Video games to fuel your life!
I've noticed something strange; I'm obsessed with productivity! I always look for new ways to stretch my time further, Because I want to get EVERYTHING done, All the time! And then all that extra stuff!
I hate only having 24 hours, Not only that but when 8 of them are consumed by sleep, It leaves me with little to work with.
I found a trick... It's video games!

They Allow You To ESCAPE!

Sometimes we need to get away from our lives for a minute, Of course, you can go for a run Or sleep. This can help! But video games are extra powerful with this. You can go into a life of farming, Or a first person shooter, Or be Superman!
You can hunt dinosaurs Or monsters! You can fly and explore new planets.
The options are endless!
When you are overworking yourself mentally, You sometimes need that escape. TV can also give you this feeling, But I don't like recommending TV, Because there are more benefits to being involved, And playing games!
I'm not saying you should use games to escape your whole life. Otherwise, you won't accomplish any goals. But when you work for HOURS nonstop, Your brain starts to slow down. I use a quick round of Overwatch Or Starcraft, to perk my brain up again so I can get back to making shirts, Or writing posts!

Videogames are perfect for "breaks."

It Allows You To Calm Down!

While some games can get you stressed and crazy, Many games can overall help you calm down.
I have the tendency to get so happy and excited about something I can't hold still. I am also a very positive person. Which becomes one of my biggest faults at times.
I get good news, Even small news. And I get extremely excited and giddy, Instead of working, I spend 2-3 hours running around and freaking out over the excitement because I can't hold still. ( I have ADHD which makes it worse). Sometimes playing some games and "Shooting" it out, Or playing a crazy game of Tetris is all I need to get that extra energy out that the good news brings. I also go for runs to combat this, But it sometimes gets too overwhelming.

They make a person "Happy"

Being happy can help you feel motivated! So by playing a game after a rough and tiring day of work, You will feel more motivated to continue working, Many games target the reward system of your brain, Which can release dopamine. That is why they are so enjoyable.
Those trophies, Coins, Or experience points you get in a game are oddly satisfying.

We Have trouble Delaying Gratification!

Long term goals are getting harder and harder to stick to. Because we aren't used to delaying gratification. We no longer have to spend 10 minutes looking up a word in the dictionary, We have Google for that. We don't have to cook our meals; We can have them shipped to our doors.
Videogames allow us to be more motivated to go towards our long term goals!
When I feel burned out because I'm not seeing the "results" of the hard work involving my long term goal, I try to reward myself with some gaming, A vacation or bike ride. Videogames are also pretty cheap, Sometimes we can't afford to go on a trip, Or we can't even afford to miss a day of work. So gaming allows us to give ourselves a reward without overdoing it.

Conclusion

While neglecting your responsibilities and excessive gaming can be bad for your health. Timing yourself, And using videogames as a motivator can help you stay productive! Give yourself breaks from work, And when you do. Let yourself enjoy a round or two of Call Of Duty, your brain will be refreshed and ready to play again.

@kaylinart when u spend 100+ hours playing dishounerd and farcry the only thing it produce in u is ur inner stealth mode fighting skills
Bdy great post as always by my fav steemer

Aww thank you so much hehe.

@kaylinart no upvote 😥 bad kaylin

Aww I forgot sorry hehe :) Done!!!

I just posted a fried chicken recipe gif i hope u will like it hv a look

That is quite correctly said, but video games are mainly focusing on naked chicks and other sexual content, which increases lust, this transferring to social conditions too.
Otherwise everything else is a big plus related to videogames, well we can exclude eye strain.
Cheers

True! It's definitely important to also look at what you are playing.

Kaylinart - it is strange that you have experienced something that I had noticed too when I was in college and playing video games. I used to feel refreshed and focused after a gaming session and study much better than my batchmates who had been studying continuously. Video games are usually blamed for promoting inactivity and violence among children but if used with control, they can be beneficial. Thanks for putting up this viewpoint. Upvoted.

I would be honored if you check my latest blogs when you have time. Your comments will be very valuable to enrich my experience. Thanks.

Thank you! I agree completely. I noticed that when I was playing rounds of overwatch here and there, After a round or two I felt refreshed and I tackled my Steemit posts easier :)

I use to play and I think it's two-fold, because you can get into too big of a break, to the point where you're no longer being productive.

The reason I say that is because my brother-in-law plays a lot of video games and he's not well off. It just saddens me that he wastes so much of his precious time on the game.

HOWEVER, that's just one scenario. I used to LOVE gaming! Thanks for sharing.

I agree! It truly can get out of hand quickly. Thats sad that your brother in law has become too absorbed in them.
When I play games, I set a timer. Or I allow myself to play 1-2 rounds of something (Which is pretty short). I then make myself "earn" more game time by finishing up more work first.

Absolutely, discipline has got to be a prerequisite. That's a creative strategy. I love it!

We need more people like you haha
Everyone seems to think video games are the spawn of the devil, scorning and scolding it even though there are many benefits to playing video games as you have stated.
Thank you

No problem :) I agree, People need to look more into the benefits!

@kaylinart great post im a big lover of computer games my son has xbox and he loves it thanks for this great post just followeed and upvoted

No problem :) Thats awesome! I love computer games too hehe.

Nice post!! I don't have a good computer yet for the game, will get it soon. Thanks for sharing. 100% upvoted @chanthasam.

Thank you :) I like that you chose computers! Thats one of my favorite ways to game. Or handhelds :)

Great article, thank you!
I think micromanagement games help with productivity more than most - always looking for the weak link, the next improvement, how to streamline production so it is efficient and cost effective.
I find myself noticing massive time wasters in my work processes almost on a daily basis - is it because of my attention to detail? Kinda. I like to think it's more based on "If this train keeps breaking down and this station never has anything to pick up i'll go bankrupt! And why is that bus not turming into the damn stop?!!!!!" :p

I feel like we have to "waste" time in order to keep our minds going. But if we plan it, And make it smaller increments we can use it to enhance our focus for longer periods of time

Article very true. I love video games and certain games like Diablo, which requires a very long playing time taught me to be enduring on a computer and to improve myself in business.

Video games improve your reactions too, particularly helpful the older you are. I am quite looking forward to Star Citizen when it's fully released and with VR and online comms you will completely lose yourself in another universe.

Exactly! I'm looking forward to those too! They will be so much fun.

altough i agree somewhat, the stuff you say is true and i also enjoy playing video games. But if escaping your real life feels good and finding refuge in a game calms you down, you should probably look to fix the cause of discomfort in your life.

Video games can get out of control very easily (speaking out of experience) and isolation can lead to a positive feedback loop.

I think this might help you a little bit:

I agree with that. Although "getting away" from your work once in a while doesn't hurt sometimes

You got me at the Profile Photo - What game is that :)

LMAO No game sadly! She does look game esque though Lol.

I wish my boss would see it this way and allow me to enjoy some video games while at work.

I understand that certain times work needs to get done, but during times when work is done and nothing too do, then you need to force ourselves to look or act busy.

This actually drains me more than anything else. When you busy with actual
work then the brain and mind is occupied with something and you don't feel to drained mentally.

Exactly! I wish more employers were okay with that too.

I love playing video games. It takes you to another world and relaxes parts of my brain that get so overworked easily. I also like the achievement part in games. It can give you a nice feeling reaching a certain goal.

I do find it difficult not to use it as to procrastinate or to flee from my responsibilities. So I always keep that in mind and negotiate with myself and use gaming a reward after a days hard work.

I recognize a lot in your content. Looks like we're on the same track :)
Thanks, I keep following and reading!

i can't playing games( i have xbox 360) because they make me sad 😒 , and i prefer to learn some books instead waste time in gaming 😎, thank you for the post 👍

Thats okay! It's all about personal preference! I like games and books hehe :)
Everyone has a different hobby and way they relax. I know gaming helps a lot of people.

that's right 👏

Those are some legit points, but from what I see nowadays video games are being abused way more than it should be. I have seen quite a few people of my age losing any connection to the world or other humans because they got addicted to video games. I remember my parents only allowing me to play 1 hours per day when I was younger. I was mad then but now I think I understand their reasoning lol.

I agree! Moderation is important!

Finally some woman talking good about games... I start to like you even more, good post :)

Yay!! Hehhe Of course! I actually play them myself LOL.

@kaylinart Hey, I think the same way. But I've been thinking of something a little different. I've worked out a daily-Quiz and made a blog about it yesterday. I'm struggeling to get the word out and to give it the attention it needs. I would love to bring this to the community because we can all have fun and benefit. Can u please read it? It's my last blog @ernstjan . Please give me a reply I even want to pay you if you would like that. I just don't know how to spread the word enough!

@kaylinart Thnx a lot. Do u know a way how to promote the article or spread the word? I've been trying on steemspeak, steemit chat isn't working on my side. I really hope this will turn out great. Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

Ernst

I understand that your post will make video game players happy reading it, for the reason being that it makes them feel a little better about the fact they waste a lot of time playing games but my view on your post is much different.

It's a waste of time.

Unless you are going to treat playing video games as if it were a full time job, it's a waste of time for most people. Some can make money doing it and that's great. Most cannot.

For the majority, video games allow you to waste time and to forget about the life you are wasting when you are not playing video games.

There are better ways to take a break and escape. Video games are a horrible choice. Most people end up playing for hours and hours on end. For what? To escape?

90% of people feel like they need to escape even though they don't really do much with their life.

For example, most people are in debt and or/ have very little money. Video games will help you forget about this. But why would you want to forget about it when you could change it?

Video games make for a great excuse to accomplish very little. Go farm some virtual coins that you can spend on your virtual life. Sounds extremely beneficial.. lol

yea you got it right, thanks - my problem: its a question of discipline (that i do not have - when i start a game i have to finish it or i play endlessly online) - have to work on it

Yet video games are another dopamine spike which justs keeps us further from our goals. I do not want to "escape" lets face life, video games get from you your most valueable resource, time, not worth it imo.

It can be worth it. If you are spending all day working, Sometimes you become a "workaholic" which is a bad thing, because your ability to be effective is hurt.
Instead you are only being busy.
Video games give your brain a quick "refresh" so you can get back to work

Thank you so much for writing this, now i can show my girlfriend, so she let me play some video games.

AWW she doesn't let you?
I hope she does! I love gaming! I don't understand why some women are so against it.

Yes, video games are great in moderation :D

Exactly ehhee

Good post

Somehow video games has the advantage but for those who are addicted to it, its not good.

They certainly do provide escape. My ex-girlfriends would tell you that for nothing!! 😂

OMG Lol

Very Nice and it has to be because what is craze about video Games you have to ask me. I am totally loving games Since i was younger like 10 to 15 years old. However as long as all the home economical responsibilities been hand over to me then all these fun had to be quit. Having fun for the elder of the home is little bit difficult. You know what i mean?? :)

sounds all good to me :)

Yes! Hehe :)

everything in this world have 2 sides - the bright and the dark. Yeah I agree video games are good for you when you are at it for a few hours a day or so.. but I've seen people who game almost 20 hour a day... thats very bad for health... I've also heard of news where children have died in their game table... Well I'm a gamer myself... I play Dota2 for almost 3 to 4 hours on week days...

"go play your video games", Lana del Rey (before it was scientific)

LOL

I use games to meet up virtually with my friends sometimes. Because straight up chatting isn't always such a guy thing to do LOL.

Wow really? That is awesome hehe.

Thanks for your post. I think I am too old for the game generation though. I think maybe I will just take a little nap when over worked as trying to figure out a game would make me feel more tired.

Well... I'm definitely showing my parents this!!!

I think that video games not only boost productivity, but can teach you how to think smarter. For example, I play Sim City 4: Rush Hour since its release in 2003 and it never gets old, it never gets boring. This game teaches you how to plan for a long term, while letting your creativity soar. Creating really a sufficient and prosperous city requires some brain power (if you play on hard mode), but still leaves you relaxed and rejuvenated. Only downside is that hours go by really fast when you play Sim City :D

what about good old books :-)
am i getting old? omg ^^
the paper thing hihi, it relaxes me most
have a nice day dear :-)

Video games are for breaks

This is my problem. When I get invested in a game, that's where all my free time goes. I have a hard time "timing myself" and don't really have the self-control to use "videogames as a motivator" to help me stay productive.

I get the point of your article, and I'm sure it's true for a lot of people, but for me, games are such a time sink. I haven't played anything in the last 2 months and I've been more productive than ever!

everything in moderation has its benefits

its what works best for each individual, my only fear is how to educate the younger users of games console so they don't socially depend on them and lose the own skills

I like how you think!

Thank you

Instead of spamming the platform, Why don't you provide value? You have to work hard to make money on here. You're not going to make money by copying and pasting hundreds of lousy comments. This isn't a "Get Rich" Scheme.

i have to learn how it work and how its possible to become Followers realy. i read about bots and so ugly thinks. i think its scam to get up so many Money for a travel Story and so on

Those people actually worked hard to CREATE VALUE for the platform. It doesn't happen overnight.
