The Stress Of Going On Vacation!

People always see vacations as relaxing. Sometimes I don't necessarily agree with that! Sometimes the before part of the vacation is quite stressful! But it's all part of the fun of going some place new!

My Crazy Month

This month is crazy! This weekend I'm going to Wendover Nevada, With @Woundedknee @Treeshaface and our friend Scott.
So that's going to be a ton of fun!

In a couple of weeks, I'm going to Denver, Colorado with my boyfriend.
And there are mini events in between like the 4th Of July, My boy friends birthday. I helped my grandpa move some of his stuff yesterday, and I might be going to Utahs best Amusement part Lagoon This upcoming Wednesday.

So today is a bit crazy as I prepare for tomorrow, Which is both my boyfriends birthday and the fourth of July!
I still haven't wrapped his presents yet. LOL.
Psshhh... Don't tell him.
But I got him some new games, The new Harry Potter Movie, lots of chocolate, Some new shorts, and some granola bars. Although I gave him a gift card And one of the games early! Although I ran out of birthday paper, So I'm wrapping everything in different colored tissue papers.

Self Employment Gets Scary!

For those of you who don't know, I'm self-employed. I run my Steemit blog, A T-Shirt Business, A Coloring book Business. And I used to have a drop shipping E-Commerce store, But I shut that one down.

Entrepreneurs are always portrayed as people laying on the beach sipping delicious drinks. But many people don't realize what goes on behind the scenes. I work over 12 hours a day seven days a week. Even when I'm on a roller coaster, I'm scraping my brain for good ideas for the next project!
I can't help it. It's just my thought process.

The one thing I miss most about having a job, Is being able to just "call in" I am then free to do whatever I want with my day. I can hangout, Watch a movie. But when you are self-employed this isn't the case.
Some of the things I have to do before leaving on vacation:

  • Write a couple of extra posts for Steemit :)
  • Make sure my T-shirt designs are uploaded and ready to go, So while I'm on vacation, I can take 10 minutes each day to submit them real quick.
  • Ship all items to my customers.
  • Deep clean my whole room, And empty my fridge. ( I like to come home to a clean environment because after vacation I'm always super tired!)
  • Set up a bunch of ads on my products to get them selling while I'm gone.
  • Do lots of research, so my freelancer will have lots to do.

While it may not sound like much, I'm about to go into the 2,000 tier with my shirts soon, Which means I'll be uploading 40 new designs a day. While I don't think it will be possible for me and one freelancer to get that much done. I'm certainly going to do the best that I can. I also have to do those things TWICE. Because I have 2 vacations instead of one coming up, Which is strange because I am not used to planning for more than one big thing!

What do you do before a vacation?

I'm super excited to go on vacation! Don't get the wrong idea. I'm also grateful I get to go! And I'll be sure to update you guys on the experience. There's just a lot on my to-do list right now haha

At times i wonder why people believe vacationing is soo relaxing...It's a lot of work with fun on the way. Relaxation is staying home with not much to do but smoke a J. haha

I just randomly say screw it and go. :) Have some fun trips!

I should hehe :) All my trips are fun anyways hehee.

My job is being your #1 fan and it's not easy. You are producing so much that it is wearing me out. :-)
Now I think I'm all caught up so I am taking a break. Seriously you really do amazing work on your post. See Ya!

I agree. Planning for vacations is stressful. Especially with two kids. Just staying home and saving money is more appealing to me these days. And I remember the days of running a business. I recall the constant stress that I could never ignore. It stuck with me at all times. If I had something that I felt needed done, I would sometimes sneak out of the house at 3 am to go to my shop and work while my family slept. No fun at all. I gave that up for now, until I get a few things in order and some debt paid off.

I feel you on the self employed part.. so hard for me since if i go somewhere I can't even set up anything, now I found steemit and am going to Thailand in a weeks time. Hopefully I can make some good travel blog about it but it sucks knowing you are in reality paying double because of the no income period :/

I agree with u Kaylinart, it always tiring before vacations and after lol , but the good part the fun u have in between. ⛱⛱

I also have to tell you , I liked the to do list you put before leaving .
Nice one.👍🏻

Good luck and enjoy ur vacation 🤗

Right? It's perfect! Thank you .

Most welcome !

Can be stressful when you are running a business. I have assigned people to manage mine. But still there is some stress in managing the trip, and looking for a place for my dog to stay.
Some people stay in resorts for their vacation, that seems relaxing. But i prefer vacations with a lot of places to explore

I'm the same way, I always avoid touristy areas they seem less fun.

@KayLinArt... Kay, You are such a Great/Imaginative writer... AND You must have 6 arms & hands because You can accomplish more than anyone I've witnessed here on Steemit AND always with a gentle, graceful smile...

Have a Great Vacation... GOD knows You certainly deserve one !!

Hey @kaylinart, let me ask you: are you selling on Merch by Amazon?
My main sources are my eCommerce dropshipping store and recently Steemit (still a small part of the income).

Usually my vacations starts at the late August and I travel sometimes till mid Dec, but usually I'm home by end of October.

Ah, I'd also ask you - have you bought some Steem Power in the last few months or last year?

Thanks,
@steemfluencer

Yup! I'm on Merch. Wow you are able to travel that long? That sound amazing.

This is not a real vacation with days off. I'm working almost every day, because you know... it's a dropshipping business. There are various events or places I like visiting regularly. Sometimes things are tough.. I'm still a single entity in my company.

I bought Steem power last year, When It was under 1.00 but not recently.

that was a very smart decision .. it's still smart, I guess I should act faster.

You deserve a rest from yourself as it seems :D

Right? I'm too much of a workaholic LOL

Great post

you are looking dam preety.

I think the best way to enjoy your vacation is if you're self employed. Most employees go on work-cation. Happy 4th of July and happy birthday to your boyfriend in advance. Harry potter movie?seems we're alike :)

currently what should be considered a vacation...there are moments of joy but plenty of others that require decisions and a bit of stress...just got take the moments as they can....Miami looks beautiful on TV...but once there it isn't as perfect as it should be...there are great places across the world...but plenty of bad...but in the end you can't be a great sunrise and then sunset...everything in between is just that space between moments of perfection....

I think the best way to spent vacation is with your phone off so no one at work or anybody else can disturb you, cool article

thesaying is , "you need a vacation after the vacation." Vacations are so loaded with activities and events that resting and just relaxing takes a back seat. Instead the "rush" of trying to do a lot and not miss out on anything in a vacation causes the stress that we tried to leave back home . It's funny , but that's a vacation. Enjoy. Come home and then unwind, befor going back to work to "grind" once again till the next vacation time.

First of all, tell me more about this Coloring book Business?!

To answer your question, before a trip I pre-write my post for that week. And then take about an hour each day to reply to comments and comment on other peoples.

I just got back from a two-week trip and so much had changed with steem I feel like it is a new platform!

I share with you this view that vacation trip is not necessarily relaxing. It can be very stressful indeed.

Hi kaylinart - Yes vacations can be stressful, but for me it's all about the contrast and perspective of what's happening - knowing that there are (hopefully) hecka fun things at the end and along the way. Some even say the perhaps over used line of it being about the journey vs destination. Hope yours is super fun!

I would tell you what i do before vaction, but i never go on them :( My family always claims they are too broke to take me on one. Great blog thou I really love it!

I agree, as a business owner it always feels like there is more to do, very hard to just relax and go; but put it on your to do list it is important also. Enjoy you time.
Never fear, work will still be there when you get back.

Well in any event, hoping that you do manage to have a mini-break on the fourth and at the lagoon, if you go on Wednesday. Happy fourth!
(ps. post upvoted)

It's good if you can decouple completely when you are on vacation. I can do it only if I don't take my laptop with me. If I do it at some point I start to use it...

The article is well done, the images are very well chosen, the content is interesting
Thank you for the efforts dedicated to write very beautiful post

"Entrepreneurs are always portrayed as people laying on the beach sipping delicious drinks." Haha, yes, yes, yes. Entrepreneurs are either super poor or super busy! :)
To be successful as a ONE PERSON company is a lot of work. Like a lot! And I am talking about legitimate work, not drug-dealing, scheming and other roads to easy-peasy money.
"I work over 12 hours a day seven days a week." - it is EXACTLY like that and many entrepreneurs (or self-employed people) actually work twice as hard as the regular 9-5 job holders, many times to find themselves in less favorable financial situation. Gotta pay your own taxes, gotta pay your own insurance, for many things you are on ... well.. your own. You may be free when other people (your friends) work, you may be busy when other people are free. And you never have a good rest, always thinking about business, how to improve, how to sustain, how to.. 24/7.
Vacations are nice, but for the one-person-company they can be a hassle. Lots of stuff can happen when you are gone. Your business, your baby. It's usually when you go on vacation, even when you have your "babysitter" in place, your mind goes to it one way or another.
Hope you have a good and restful one!

thanks for this articl, after one month i will have a vaccation and i need that

I love your sarcasm because it's so in your face yet so chilled. You state the obvious in a round about way and then let people figure it out. I too am an entrepreneur. I feel your exhaustion. But please take a moment to refresh, rejuvenate and relax on your adventures.

MAy be stressful planning for a vacation but is so fun to have time to relax

Two stressful days when travelling: the departure day and the return's. One can still have more stress a couple of days before the departure and before the return as well. does it make sense actually? :D

Very interesting!

This is called life :)

Self employment is the worst in terms of taking a vacation! People just wanna see their income grow and their business increase so they often forget to take care of themselves. Good luck on yours and i wish you lots of rest and fun!

I know what you mean about being self-employed.

I've been contracting for about 9 years now, and while it gives me loads of freedom to do whatever I want, usually what i want is more wok so I can pay the rent hehe.

At least I don't have to ask my boss for time off when want to go on holiday - or book that holiday months in advance in case someone else gets that slot.

The one thing did on my last holiday a few weeks ago, was go somewhere with pretty much no cellphone coverage. So was uncontactable for a while.

So couldn't worry about work, because there was no way to do any work.

My next big holiday (hopefully next year) will be the same - no ability to work, so I wont' work.

You might like to try that also - a holiday is a holiday!!

Agree. Lots of stress.
Make sure I have money, then pack. No I can't clean the place before, too much work. Crunch, crunch as I pack.

I remember the crazy prevaca stress when I was in my corporate life. It takes a few days to come down from it. I admire you're doing it freelance and hope I can do the same. I don't want to go back to that other kind of stress, make sure you take some time to detox and get off all devices. Upped and non voyage.

I know this feeling all to well. Being self employed and having customers that need daily attention, makes it a bit hard to go on vacation. But, every year, the wife and I take at least a 4 day weekend somewhere. Helps keep us sane and madly in love with each other. Good post, look forward to more.

So true!! Thank you so much! Your wife deserves it! Self employment is hard but so worthwhile.

Agreed, me and the wife were just talking about why we do what we do. It beats working for the "man".

I agree! It's like you have to cram 2 weeks of work in a few days before you go on vacation. EVEN WORSE, is extra work you have to do upon returning just to get back to "normal". I hope you are able to 'disconnect' from work during your trip. Have fun.

The most stressful day of your life is definitely the day before a vacation!!! Maybe even the day of the vacation lol!

I remember I couldn't find my passport whilst travelling once it was with one of my family members although we didn't know it at the time!!!!

The most stressful ment ever! Lol, all those preparations, new outfits, plans potentially ended at that stressful moment,

I did manage to retrieve the passport in the end and travel. Phewwww

What a relief

Before going on our last trip we cleaned the house up so that when we got back it would be in a good state...it sucks to come home and immediately feel like you've got to start cleaning things. I also made sure to put a bunch of chlorine in the pool so when we got back it'd be clear and happy so we could jump in and enjoy it. Well, we got back and our pool was bright green, lots of algae growing! Been spending the last week getting it back to normal, ah well I tried!

I just got back from 2 weeks vacation and with 3 kids age 1-7 I´m not exactly rested.. :)
But it´s good fun though! Seeing the kids enjoying themselves is definitely worth it!

I go on Vacation in 13 days and will be STRESS Free for 11 days!lol
Grand Canyon or Bust...:)

Money don't sems to be a problem for you ,just where to go

kumusta! thanks for the post. :)

I stay home and work on the pc or play games all of my vacation. I hate traveling and especially I hate getting ready for long trips.

Oh, sorry, is this the wrong way to comment on this lovely and positive story? =)

Great post! I do things similarly when I'm leaving home on a vacation. Being a solopreneur is a tough task when you shoulder so many responsibilities.
