Why I STILL Wear The Same Thing Everyday.steemCreated with Sketch.

When I was 12 years old, I started wearing nothing but Black.
There were a lot of reasons for it, And I wrote a blog post about it along time ago.

Some people assumed it was a phase, But here I am at the age of 24. Still wearing black.

Things haven't changed, I have no desire to start wearing color again.

But why?

There are pros and cons to everything in life, And after spending the first 12 years of my life wearing brightly colored clothes I learned real fast...

  • You have to "match" Clothes.
  • You have to "Sort" Clothes for washing.
  • You have to "Match" fabrics
  • When something falls apart, You have to specifically replace it with something that matches your crazy mismatched wardrobe.
  • Finding matching socks in a big pile of socks is a nightmare.
  • You have to "plan" more when traveling on "what to wear."
  • When your favorite article of clothing falls apart, Your stuck wearing your lesser liked clothing.

All of these things seemed like a massive waste of time and a burden.

The Benefits of wearing the same thing everyday!

You can even go with a couple colors if you'd like, Or pick your favorite color. I saw a lady on TV who wore nothing but Green. It was really unique! haha. Some of the benefits of wearing the same color each day..

  • Less fading, With all of my clothes being black, I can easily wash them together. They stay nice and dark.
  • Wash everything together.
  • You can't see stains, But you can see lint instead :(
  • Everything matches everything else.
  • I get to wear my favorite pants and shirt every day! Because most of my clothes are the same.
  • I never have to plan outfits.
  • I never have to worry about something being "dirty" . Because I probably have an identical one in my closet.

Shopping is EASY!

If I go to the store and see something I like, Instead of buying 1, I can buy 3-4. Shopping is faster, I find 1-2 shirts I like and I buy the same thing over and over again! I love it.

Other people do this too!

I was surprised when I found out that other people have this same clothing habit that i do, Actually quite a bit. While it's fun to dress up different and cute each day, it takes a lot of time and effort. Depending on your lifestyle it may not work for you.

Decisions are limited.

When we have to make a lot of decisions throughout the day, It quickly becomes exhausting. That is why we have an autopilot mode. By not having to search our closets for the "perfect" outfit. We save ourselves a decision each day, This allows us to use that brian power for something else that is more important.
People like Steve Jobs wear the same thing everyday. As well as Albert Einstein, And Pee Wee Herman!

Clothing can be used as Branding!

When people think of me, They often associate me with the color black. Because I'm always in black clothing. Now if I were just wearing "whatever" each day. They may not associate me with any color in particular. Branding can be good, Because it makes you more memorable.

I, like you, started wearing black around 14 or so and I agree with all you said. It looked great with my blonde hair and made me feel powerful. I love color, though, just not on my body because it tends to feel overwhelming or something. I do wear some aqua, blue, or green, but very little. Will you "grow out of it"? I didn't and I'm 54!

I love blondes that wear black! Its so awesome :)
Wow! I hate that everyone says it's a "Phase" Because a lot of times its not.

I don't know that I could ever do this, but I have a really good friend that's been doing this since he was a teenager and he gives a lot of the same reasons you do! I do think it's cool! :)

Awesome hehe :) I think it can be hard for some people who really like to focus on their outfit!

I like to keep it simple too, and I love black.
I'm a no-fuss girl.

Interesting opinion.

Thank you!

Good post. I also wear a lot of black but also really like checked shirts for some reason

When you are a bartender in NYC you wind up wearing and owning -- all black everything, clothes shoes, socks. Makes getting dressed for work a lot easier :)) To be fair, I do own some blue jeans!

You are very beautiful, a great post)

thank you!

I too am a lover of black clothes. Unfortunately, my wife (the boss) has reduced the black shirts to just a few now. The crazy things we do for love. Great post, not many people think about it.

Enjoyed this share very much..I love wearing black also... Cheers!

Woo hoo! Black is very fun haha.

I love wearing black. To me it's more fun to work with colors to accent the outfit.

Exactly! You can add some red or purple. Or any color you want!

I typically wear black or dark colours too. I haven't bought white socks in yeeeeears! Always the same black ones, life is easier that way lol ~

Great points; one of your best articles!

Logic +1

I wear black all the time, nothing wrong with it, mostly because I live on Cape Cod and everyone here wears those yuppy Vineyard Vines pastels that look like they came from an Easter basket. However...

Black is associated with Saturn, the Black Cube of Saturn. Saturn you see according to the Electric Universe Theory is a dead star and the powers that be have always known this, they call Saturn the "Black Sun". This is why the Nazi's wore black, because the leaders of the Nazi's were all Saturn Cult Worshipers just like the Freemasons, and the "Illuminati" if you will. Just a little esoteric lesson for ya:

With all of my clothes being black

Come on, admit it, you must have at least some outfits which are all white - just for the contrast of it :P Even if you don't wear it...

Btw, the only issue with black clothing is their drying in the sun - which can turn them brownish... if one has an alternate way of drying them, it definitely helps in preserving the color.

I used to! I had these weird white pants LOL. But as I decluttered my closet I got rid of all of it.

I have to sets of clothes. Ones I wear all the time, (pretty much all the same) and ones that I wear to go out once or twice a week. I found this to be a nice balance between the two. I have been both ways myself and just cant get around the need to have some color when im out dancing salsa.

yeah black goes with everything never stop wearing the same color
