You've Outgrown Your Life!

This is one of the things I consider myself to be pretty good at. When to let things go, And when to stay. But lately, I've been dealing with a lot of emotions. And I second guess myself.
I think I just miss certain aspects of my old life. Because this new life I have, Seems too easy. It's not chaotic at all. It's too calm.
So many people start feeling that they've outgrown their current opportunities. And yet they stay put without much thought. They stay in that relationship, The job the hate. Whatever it is, The options run out. So they stay put.

Opportunities Dwindle

Have you ever felt that you are at a dead end? That you are stuck living the same life every day because there doesn't seem to be any new opportunities to pursue? This is one indication that you've outgrown your current situation. And you need to start coming up with new goals for yourself.

Things Feel Too Easy

A big reason I left my janitorial job And left my job at UPS. Was because things got too easy. There wasn't a challenge anymore, and i wasn't learning anything new. Part of me wanted to stay at both jobs because I was happy. I loved both jobs. But many of the qualities I once Had loved were gone. At UPS, My favorite supervisor had quit, And I wasn't as close to my coworkers as I once was. I switched shifts to try to improve things. But that only made it worse. The daily schedule I had was too easy. Then at my Janitorial job. I had been cleaning that same Elementary school for six years. I was so attached to that place And considered it my second home. But the job was too easy, and I started losing the passion I had once had. It became so boring I could barley get through a shift.

This is a sign that you've outgrown your job. And should look for something that will challenge us. Many people don't realize that part of being successful is about the challenges we face each day to become stronger. Even though deep down I miss my jobs even now. I know that I wasn't learning or growing from working at these places. So I left to become Self-employed.

The Future Doesn't seem any different from today

Sometimes when I'm missing my good old days at a regular job. I remind myself that If I would have stayed. My life wouldn't have changed at all. I would be in the same life that I had before. As a result, I probably would have felt like a failure. You can't have the same daily routine every day and later expect different results. It just doesn't work that way.

We often like to blame the aspects of our lives that we hate as an effort to justify the areas in which we are failing.

But then sometimes those things we hate, Disappear, and we are in the same situation we were before.

We didn't make a change. Because those things that we thought were inhibiting our ability to be successful, Weren't inhibiting us at all.

Some people claim that they are broke because they don't make enough money. While there are a lot of people out there, Not making enough money. Many of us, Even if we got that raise. Would only raise our lifestyles to eventually eat up that raise. So that raise wouldn't change our minds at all. We would still feel "broke."

If you have outgrown your life, It's up to you to make that change. So you can have a better life. Don't make excuses. When Things become too easy, Your future doesn't look better, And your opportunities seem to be going away, It's time to move on. Look at the lives of others, Or explore new interests to get some ideas of what you'd like to do in your life.

For me over the last few years it has been calm before the storm. I hope you don't have a storm coming. Nice post very thoughtful.

Thank you. I hope I don't either. I feel like I just got out of the storm :)

A good article and very honest. we all outgrow our lives at some point in them ! I hope you find what you're looking for and keep seeing the journey as the most important aspect. I mean, we're all headed for exactly the same destination and you have to leave all your things at the end of the line. possessions, baggage, people. every day being alive should be lived as though it could be your last. It's difficult to look at it that way unless you've nearly had everything taken away. when you realise that the only thing you really need is oxygen and even water can wait, then you (well me anyway) begin to appreciate the small things. I recently became a Dad to not 1 but 2 wonderful daughters. I'm not going to outgrow them.. ever ! although one day they will perhaps outgrow me. and that's not to say it's not going to be an amazing journey. I truly feel like I'm driving the train now for them and my own whims are not so important as their needs. hope that doesn't sound corny. Zoe & Phoebe if you ever find this to read this one day, I hope it makes sense ! x

Nice! Enjoy your kids....they grow too fast. I have 2 kids and they now refuse to be carried. O how I wish I had carried them more. Held them closer. For just a little bit more....

aw, I try and carry them as much as possible. The elder one didn't like being held so much but the little one is like a tree frog. funnily enough since she came along, the elder one has become a lot more cuddly. A bit of competition perhaps ;)

Exactly my personal experience. Though it took me some time to realize...or maybe I was just too afraid or couldn't imagine a different life at that time. But one day I just had to change the way things were and that was the best decision I've ever made.

So yeah, it seems like I had outgrown my life...

I'm glad that you started to notice and decided to make the change

I'm trying to recharge my SP and you're making me use it! LOL, this is something I feel like I did about a year ago and may be falling back into complacency. Sometimes once I make a change and than experience all 4 seasons in my new position or state, I seem to feel deja vu or something. It's just something I've personally noticed. I can appreciate everything you said and need to do some thinking and evaluating over the next few weeks...

Aww! I know how that feels! I can never seem to recharge my SP!

Aww! You should :) I think in order to live a happy life we all need to take the time to do that on a regular basis.

Nothing wrong with wanting change and to get the challenge back once again. I find the challenge to be the most rewarding part as you complete your tasks. Having your life set into a newer pace with many changes can take getting use to, but keep striving forward to get both the challenge and something you really enjoy doing.

Now I must get ready :P as I got a test for iOS development and then almost on holidays woo! :D

Thanks for the good, morning read Lin. :)

So true!!
Wow!!! Good luck on your test :) Let me know how you do heheh :)

Hehe thanks. :)
It will be easy for this one, as have been the other 3 I had. :)

Oh good! :) Then you should pass with flying colors hehe.

Easy passed plus the extra bits for more points :) and just 2 more 2 hour lessons this week and I am good for my 3 weeks off, woo! :D

awww I love this article. I totally get what your talking about, as I've experienced this myself... once I feel like I'm not learning anything new I get bored. It's pretty awesome you've set yourself up in a situation where you can just work for yourself. That's why I'm working hard on steemit... :) Hopefully it will open new opportunities! Cheers!

So true heheh :) Aww I hope it will open new opportunities for you too! I feel like Steemit will make anything we want in life possible.

absolutely! :) Thanks again for all of your support. It's been such a big help!

Outgrowing yourself is the next big step of waking up to what is happening. Turning out your TV was the first one.

Keep on sharing your experience!

Yes! Avoiding the TV is a great one to stop "distracting" yourself on whats really happening in your life.

Next is changing the way you use internet.
As we know - internet could go both ways.
It's how you use it that matters - either you gain knowledge and be wise in putting it to use or you get fear and anxiety leading you to depression and sadness.

Stay true, brothers and sisters!

agreed

Wow. This article spoke to me.

It is amazing how we so often hang onto that which we do not like. It is some sick addiction. I guess what we know is more comfortable than what we dont even if we dont like what we know.

Steemit offers a tremendous opportunity to create and make a living. This is something that was not really available before. Sure many blogged but how many actually made anything more than a few cents. Here, many people, even newer ones are making a few dollars each week....a lot more than Google Adsense pays.

Thank you for sharing what you feel and go through.

It is all about your everyday decision-making. Some people can analyze their past and present and make a right choice. Some not. Those who cannot, may benefit from articles like yours and get inspired at some point to make their life better and do some changes. Thank's for sharing your experience with us .

Exactly :) your everyday choices, good or bad will greatly affect the life you can live in the long run.

I've been feeling lately that I'm doing too hard, and it's a failure.
worse still in the income sector, I am really deadlocked, health condition is disrupted, many of my family's dreams are in delay, loans everywhere. 😫

Aww no! Maybe you need a game plan Abelpasai to help you figure out your next move in life.

I tried to improve myself and make a plan.
Thank you for your vote and advice.

I'm a bit different about this. In my case, oppurtunities always flow around me but i find it very difficult to react. I'm very slow and lazy to take oppurnities especially when it has to do with trying new things but yet it's always at the back of mind that i need try. This is one big fact i need to brave up and change for good.

Ohh thats a good one :) I didn't think of it from that perspective.

Hey @kaylinart , just started to follow you. Did like your thought in this post a lot :) Is it based on your experience on Steemit or something else? How did you persuade yourself to change your lifestyle and work?

Kind of :) I was working towards becoming self employed before I found Steemit. But Steemit helped speed up my ability to get there.

You know the best part of accepting new challenges? It makes you wake up with excitement every morning! The challenge does not allow you to sleep any longer, because you know you are in a challenge and you can't afford to fall back.

You can't have the same daily routine every day and later expect different results. It just doesn't work that way.

So true!

It makes life worth living. I know of many people in their 60s and beyond who accept challenges - it may be as simple as wanting to run everyday for 10 miles. While it may sound easy for someone who is young it is certainly a challenge for an old person.

The challenge for me is always how to get to be the best on my new ventures. For example, so that many here can relate, while I see people calling it quits on Steemit because of low SP or no visibility for posts, or whatever other excuse they have, for me this challenge makes me all the more determined to succeed on a platform that may be new for me.

If you have outgrown your life, It's up to you to make that change. So you can have a better life. Don't make excuses.

Well said!

After all there is no fun in a status quo where everything goes as predicted with no challenge so overcome. A person becomes nearly brain dead without challenges.

Thank you for such a good post!

well said

I would say that it would make life too predictable if you could predict the future. I only say that because it is something I can't do. Repetitiveness is great for building a routine and improving one's self but it does not help predict the finished outcome. Our time on earth is so little that it is sad to see people suffer from such things. Technology and time is evolving right before us and depression can cause a person to miss out on the jewels of life. hey @cleverbot how long is the lifespan of an average healthy human being in 2017?

Are you talking about you? You have a lot of friends.

Great post...upvoted, resteemed and followed you☺

This is me - work is literally making me feel so miserable at the moment. I've said to myself 'one more year', but I'm wondering it that's a year too far!

I feel I can make the leap out of work next summer, I just need to make sure all my various online income streams are viable, it's hard to replace a stable £45K/ $60K job a a year with online revenue after all!

My biggest fear is that I go and that the online revenue just dries up - there's a lot of competition out there after all, and one simply doesn't know the algorithmic moods which generate one's online income!

Still, economic uncertainty is preferable to work-misery in the long run.

Guess I could always become a monk if it all dries up after all!

very interesting when we tell the future and try to learn from the past

Exactly!!

Boredom is when doing your work definitely a first clue that it's time to move on.

On the whole, I'd have to say that I love calm and "easy." But it's also such a rarity... for the most part, my challenge has been to recognize the many times when I am busting my butt and working my fingers to the bone... yet barely "getting by." I hang on too long, "hoping it'll get better," but it never does.

My life for the last 5-6 years has been a process of simplifying and "making smaller."

That's why I think that although most people hate their jobs, they do need their jobs.

Without them, they'd be bored and aimless. People just don't know how important it is to do something everyday even though it feels routine.

Good post

I worked with a giy that said he stayed in jobs for five years and as soon as it became boring or not challenging he moved to another job within the company I thought it was a great idea and needless to say ive been at my job for 3 years and its closing in on a good time to switch.

Making changes is tough and I have realised that truly a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

A wandering life. A wondering life. Stay happy.

You say it with Don't make excuses!!! It's so hard to make the change from what we are comfortable with to taking a chance to what we are talented and skilled in. What was the tipping point for you that made you go full-time self-employed and never look back?

Well I started my business BEFORE leaving my job. I did something that was a little risky. I was still in debt. and struggling financially. But My job had become so tedious and I considered it a "time waster". So I took a massive risk and quit probably before I should have. But in my case it worked out. and I'm not afraid to get another "entry" level job if necessary.

If I was hanging over a cliff and you had a chance to save @intelliguy would you?

I think you would... but I don't know for sure... grin

I'd like you to come see why I said that about you...

https://steemit.com/steemit/@intelliguy/understanding-your-existence-your-soul-the-meaning-of-life-how-much-is-your-soul-worth-be-careful

I can feel you...
I think your story is everybody's story...
I feel what you felt and this really could get us closer, as humanity...

If we only have the courage to say what we really feel, how's our vision about one or another, like you did, maybe we could hold hands and break through!

What are we really looking for?...

Thank you!

Enjoy @nature.art!

Enjoy life!
Be love!

@kaylinart - You have described, in a very polite and precise language what I call 'getting stuck in a rut'. In the olden days, when they used oxen to run a grinding mill, the oxen went round and round mindlessly. When you have outgrown your current situation, that is what it gets like - isn't it?
I had gotten stuck in 'being successful executive' rut. Thought I was doing great but in the end, it all came down to the same goals every year! LOL So stepped back. Found Steemit and now I do wildlife blogs! I request you to visit sometime if you feel inclined.

Thanks for this thought provoking blog. Upvoted full.

Life's way of telling you that it's time to level up!
