The evil eye( Nazar boncuğu) – Evil eye bead

This is an ancient superstition that you will find in many countries around the Mediterranean area including Turkey, the Middle East and as far afield as India. Every nation has own superstitions. Sometimes people can be crayz about that. Turkish people believe that these charms can offer you protection against the harmful effects of the evil eye sickness. They can also used in act of healing if one has been affected. When you see people wearing this, its belief that by wearing this necklaces on you this eye it will block and protect you from the eyes somebody else. Not only Muslim people believing this evil eye but also Christians, Jewish, Buddhists and Hindus.

When I was a kid I was in Greece and I remember bringing home some owl eyes like those in the pictures as a present for the family.

Interesting. Neighbour countries always have stuff in common, even after a long history of rivalry.
